Steve Ilg's WHOLISTIC FITNESS...since 1982
"The contemporary manifestation of the Path of the Ancients; Steep and Direct!
Onward, Upward, and endlessly Inward"
Join WF Online Studies TODAY...the Proven Path for body/mind Warriors willing to swim
upstream against the current toward the Pure Source
DON'T PERSUADE: PRACTICE YOUR OWN PATH
WF Online Student and SUNRIDER Herbal Warrior Simon Ash of Great Britain climbing 'Pocket Symphony"...Of his
jump into WF Online Studies, Student Ash says";even after 6 weeks of study I can see noticeable changes in my physique, especially after being guided with the herbs..." How about you? Care to be be Transformed by a totally unique Body/Mind Path with nearly a quarter century of proven effectiveness with thousands? You've already found it: Wholistic Fitness, baby! The only question is; At What Level
Are You Willing to Soar?
Dear Coach Ilg,
First off to say thanks for helping me on this path, even after 6 weeks of study I can see noticeable changes in my physique, especially after being guided with the herbs....I look forward to continued mental, physical and metaphysical improvements as time goes on...

Now a quick question if I might. I am going to persuade my girlfriend about the numerous advantages of Sunrider and sign her up. Do I need a different id number for this or can I use the id I use when ordering for myself.

Humbly and gratefully as always

Simon Ash
Most Noble WF Online Student and SUNRIDER Warrior Simon!
first, congratulations on the mind/body Transformation.
it always Works when you are on a Proven Path...and, you are willing to Trust and Sweat.
second,
i advise you never to persuade anyone to do the herbs.
look up the word "persuade."
you will see that persuasion is an intellectual exercise designed to 'sway' another persons intellect.
yet,
i tell you this;
SUNRIDER herbs are not about the intellect.
if you approach SUNRIDER from the intellect, you remain a skeptic.
you just keep eating the herbs and your girlfriend will come around on her OWN intuitive wisdom
that these herbs are something worthwhile to explore.
if fact, the more you say to her, "Honey, i don't know if you are ready for these herbs...they are VERY powerful."
that to me, is far more enticing than pushing me toward something i don't care about.
once she FEELS the CHI of the herbs in her own body, be it CALLI, ACTION CAPS, or the SKIN CARE...
she will immediately say, "Sign me UP!...my BODY NEEDS these herbs!"
when that time arrives,
you just sign her up as a Preferred Customer or a Distributor under you, using YOUR SR ID#...
pretty soon, she signs up her friends because her friends see how HER physique and demeanor has been Transformed,
and pretty soon?
you are eating all the SUNRIDER herbs you want for free just by helping others.
is this not a better System than a mass-manufactured Grocery Store?

SUSPENDED LEG RAISES ALTERNATIVE
Ultra Top Position of a Lying Leg Raise with Yoga Blocks and YogaToes to accentuate the training effect.
To increase the intensity of the movement limit your Top Position to here, around 45 degrees.
and always keep the Bottom Position with both heels just flirting with Mother Earth...i do these all time, there is much inner Artistry to be found within the networking of the pelvic and hip musculature. Don't get fancy with Ab Training; just get consistent. Inhale as the legs elevate, exhale as they lower.
{PowerBlocks and YogaToes available through www.yogapro.com}
***
Dearest Coach Ilg,
I'm preparing to begin the Green Tara program (again). My gym does not have the apparatus for doing thesuspended leg raises...any alternative suggestions?

Thank you for all that you do andfor all that you write. When I finally graduate from school next May with mymasters degree... you'll have yourself another Online student. Sadly, I had to choose between that and the herbs and decided the herbs should be my priority. One thing at a time and all that I need with come to me. I just have to remind myself of that :-)

love always,
Rachel
Most Noble WF Warrioress Rachel,
you can't go wrong with the ol' Lying Leg Raises as a substitute for the more intense Suspended Leg Raises. To perform just lie supine on a bench or on the earth, place your hands under your buttocks, palms down, and lift your head slightly so you can gaze down the Eastern body (frontal plane). imagine a yoga block between your thighs and ankles (extra credit if you imagine wearing YogaToes...see photos above) and with a slight bend at the knees, just raise and lower with impeccable grace and control your legs. Advanced Top position is about 45 degrees and Bottom position is when both heels are just flirting with Mother Earth. in an upcoming DL i will turn you on to a very cool advanced version of this movement which i do nearly every ab workout.
i trust this helps, and i want you to trust that getting on the SUNRIDER herbs is absolutely the wiser call between Online Training and the herbs. this is because the herbs work to Cleanse and Empower every one of your billions of cells each day, each moment in myriad ways. in fact,
i am considering in the future to make getting on SUNRIDER herbs mandatory for all WF Online Students, Warrior Inka Level and above. that is how valuable i feel these herbs are to the Transformation effect that WF is known for in her student's lives.
you are doing great and never worry about having to return to Green Tara program. Her empowerment and protection of all your fitness spheres is so great that you can begin again and again, and endlessly again to master Her Realms!
i bow to your Devoted Practice and thanks for reading DL!

Coach Announces His Plans To Defend Team Title at October's 2005 Furnace Creek 508!
" ...you were most likely the blur going past me in the Mojave desert." - Bob
This was likely what DL Reader Bob saw in the Mojave last year; Coach Ilg testing his HP Yoga
Practice at 29 mph upon a Trek Alu-carbon fiber two wheeled 'yoga mat.'
Hello Steve
Last year (2004) my good friend and one of my crew members told me as we
were heading back from my DNF that I should read your books. After
returning home I noticed that you were in fact in the race and most
likely were the blur going past me in the Mojave desert. We spent most
of the ride back to LA discussing what he could remember of your books.
I was wondering if you are going to be in the race this year, or if you
will be around LA then. We are again venturing from northern Canada for
the race and both Brian and myself would be honored to have the chance
to meet you. We are arriving in LA 4 or 5 days before the race.
Thanks
Bob
Most Noble and Fellow Racer of Two Wheels Bob,
thank you for your letter and for your embrace of my humble Path.
Call me a fool,
yet i suppose i have already forgotten the Pain and Torture of racing through the Mohave...
so, yes,
i am leading a new Team to defend the Men's Open 4x4 title i helped set last year at Chris Kostman's
most amazing adventure and test of the
Body,
Mind,
and Soul;
the Furnace Creek 508.
www.the508.com
(funny, no other Yoga Teachers seem to compete in this event? too stuck on the mat? hmmmm?)
These are mysterious sports, the ultra events.
They pull us back for it seems the moments we spend competing in them settle upon our Soul
and continue to itch at our Warrior hide, until we say to ourselves, "YES! One More Time! I CAN do it!"
This what i love most about the Human Spirit; the urge to merge into Endeavor and Risk. i care little
for those who pretend to challenge in the form of lawsuits, gambling money, or intellectual gymnastics.
What i DO love about the Human Spirit; integrity shown through Solo Practice, direct experience, and
unadulterated sweat.
So yes, Warrior Bob, you will see me there in the Mohave next year with a new team.
Will i be in LA around October?
No.
Stay tuned to DL.
I have an announcement upcoming.
Make your move with Elegant Posture and Conscious Breath,
coach ilg
ps: DL Readers = Wanna help me and my team defend the Title? Enjoy reading about the 508 and all the great
training prep for it? Well, if you would like to show your support... Man, do i need your help! i am seeking
monetary and product Sponsorship to defend the title! if you wish to contribute cash or have a product
that can help in ultra distance bicycle racing; i would be MOST appreciative to see your support of my efforts
made manifest. just contact me at: ilgtrain@pacbell.net.

Dear Coach,
You're one lucky man!
Read Teacher Q's DL (DL:4/27) today and found it totally moving and profound - you are lucky to have people like him around you - you're one of the richest people that i know, because the folks who come to you give you their love and respect rather then mere money (money helps in some things in this world - if it was that important then only rich people would be happy -NOT the case).
Thought i'd share a Native American poem i read a while ago and just had to copy from the book, i think it is a great essence of beauty and truth - very humbling. If you haven't seen it already then i hope you enjoy;

'Let me walk in beauty
and make my eyes ever behold
the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things
you have made,
and my ear sharp to hear your voice.
Make me wise so that I may
understand
the things you have taught my people.
Let me learn the lessons you have
hidden
in every leaf and rock.
I seek strength
not to be greater than my brother
but to fight my greatest enemy:
myself
Make me always ready to come to
you
with clean hands and straight eyes.
So when life fades
as a fading sunset
my spirit may come to you
without shame.'
Please keep doing what you're doing Coach - it makes things a lot better for a lot of people.
Humbly yours,
ranjit

Coach,

Teacher Q here now.

i wonder....no, i KNOW that our students FEEL the CHI in the air of these amazingtimes.

since i've moved here from my birth home in NY almost 6 years ago, my journey has taken on what has till now seemed quite peculiar. as Coach says, and he is correct, yogis don't give a hoot about time. i only add it here for continuity.

this month celebrates 13 years cradled in the arms of this beloved warriors Path. although i must say rarely has it felted anything even close to what my EGO would call cradled. i could go on and on about the lessons and how the times have changed yet stayed the same, how the journey has been long and steep, yet just beginning. i'll indulge just a little...

back then, no one it seemed, but Coach knew anything about "plyometrics". i was already a trainer and i never heard the term. i was the only interesting person Jump Squatting and doing Kin-hin walk around the squat rack in between sets. the only person keeping a hold of the bar after barbell curls(for explanation read TBT closely)to tap deeper spiritual reserves. the only one pausing between reps to breathe fire into the soul as my muscles screamed at the EGO to stop! and the person waiting for me to finish looked at me like, "how long is this set bro?" not to mention bowing to them and the machine when i was through (another WF lesson). i was the only person bringing a wonder wheel to yoga class to pre crank mulabanda. not to mention riding my bike thru traffic to and from the class with what i call "NYC Mindfulness"....aka Pay Attention OR DIE!!

and on and on the journey goes. (i'll share more another time)

back then the so called New Age was just exploding. seemed every 10 dang minutes a book or video was coming out about this new thing or that new thing. and your wild hearted Teacher Q tried them all. i'd ask Coach about each one. patient he was. you see, he too had seen and done most everything in his own journey. he knew. he'd say "cool bro....go check it out, let me know what you think and feel". like many what i was REALLY looking for (and one of the purposes of this share.) i mean what i was R E A L L Y searching for was..

a freakin EASIER way man!!!

YES!! YES!! i said it!! an EASIER WAY OUT!! i mean DAMN!! this path is tough. i mean even Luke Skywalkergot ITafter a scene or two. this is why when i read DL i can hear the thoughts beneath many of your words. me too!!

i'd read some book where all i had to do was chant this chant, meditate this meditation, drink this drink, etc. secretly(though not so secret) i was wishing i'd find a short cut or hidden teaching that would catapult me to enlightenment. i'd do it and then i'd whip it out on Coach....TADA!! i am enlightened!! now stop all this crazy ass stuff and let's relax get fat and pontificate our lives away;-)

never worked. in fact i have a story about this.

secretly(well not so secret) i went thru this course of new age spiritual training. with a very famous teacher. hundreds attended. soon after i went to Durango(which i called Degaba) when Coach lived there, for my Intensive. i told him of the course and my newly learned state of the art mental skills. to which he said "cool".

side note: if any of you come to an Intensive with Coach and you share something you've learned and he says "cool", uh...LEAVE! cause he will test you to SEE if in fact you have said skills.

so we are going thru a run up and down the forest trails. we were doing Mintues Are Forever with a minute recovery times. after about 45 mins or so of this i could see we were coming to the end of a trail. which i thought would be the end of this workout and or we'd turn around and go back. NOT. there at the end of the trail was a 200 ft drop straight down to another part of a trail. now this wasn't an ordinary hill. actually Coach called it a hill, i called it a damn cliff! every inch was filled with bowling ball size stones!! not one bit of "ground" anywhere! so with no hesitation he just took off down the cliff. your teacher Q did a roadrunner styled HALT!!my new mental skills said to me "HELL NO!" cause this wasn't no fall and get a little boo-boo type of thing.if you fell on this thing by the time your ass got to the bottom there wouldn't be nuttin left of you i kid you not, it took me a half hour to climb down this hill! when i got down he just looked at me with the most loving look i ever saw. he never said a word.

you see there is NO easy way. perhapsi learned alot of cool stuff. it was like going to Spiritual Disney Land. i'd go on the spiritual rides, see cool lights, sounds, beings etc. have some magic cotton candy(wink, wink), and scream as i faked terror going around the loopdeloop. but then....but then sooner or later i'd be back in my car behind the wheel with spirit saying "ok....so where were we, oh yeah....your scared of death, don't love who you are, afraid of losing, fearful of success, etc, etc"

DAMN!! fake out again.

inhale.....exhale.

now.

am i saying WF is the ONLY path? no. it is not. am i saying we are the BEST? no. these words are not given with that VIBE at all. it is simply to say, and you've all heard it before the only way OUT is IN beloveds. and there is NO easy Way!! if anyone tells you they can enlighten you in 3 Easy Lessons, run away!! this is FOREVER path. if anyone says they are in fact Enlightened, run the other way!! if they gotta say it....they ain't IT.

everything you need is within you, but you must be willing to go and find it....to take it. knock and you shall receive is very true, but knocking on the door of spirit is a moment to moment thing.

so my beloved warriors who i adore with all of my being,

JOURNEY ON!!

train with courage and consistancy. train with love and light.

The Coach and all the Teachers of WF are here for you endlessly.

i bow.

PROP WORKOUT TOO EASY?!?!
"It's easy to schlep your way through many of the movements in my HP YOGA PROP WORKOUT DVD,
yet, as your Detailed Awareness matures, you will sense where your ego is schleping your Spirit
and, if you are a Warrior of the Spirit, you will Rise Above the Schlep and CULTIVATE THE CHI!...
high compression forces are needed upon the Prop Blocks at all times during a Prop Workout!"
-Coach Ilg
****
Noble WF Online Student Ranjit of Haku Clan,
high compression on those prop blocks is required...
really squeeze the shit out of them as you are doing the movements;
easy to loose focus during the intensity of that Prop Workout and not extend your arms or legs
or maintain a high compression factor into the blocks.
Teacher Haku's counsel below is sage; as your Detailed Awareness matures
you will soon see where you are a 'schelping' your way through some of the movements during
Prop Workout.
Watch your ego during the PROP WORKOUT; it will want to send you onto Cruise Control. yet Yoga is
not about cruising; it's about climbing Steep and Directly Upwards, ever Upwards toward the Pure Source.
i bow to the Strength of your Practice,
coach ilg
*
Teacher Haku,
A quick question if i may regarding the HP Prop workout - i did my first one yesterday - LOVED IT! - the strange thing is that i found some parts of the workout relatively easy (abs, squats, legwork dips) so what am i doing wrong? i can't believe that i'm doing it right because i can't believe i'm anywhere near fit enough, or is this normal in your experience. i'm trying to follow Coach Ilg as closely as i can, in your experience can you give me any quick tips to see if i'm 'cheating' somehow - i'd really like to get as much out of the workout as possible. Don't get me wrong - some parts of the workout are beyond my capabilities at the moment, yet those will be my greatest teachers i know - it's just that i can't understand why some of the workout seems almost to be easy.
- Ranjit
Dear Ranjit,
I TAF that as your fitness improves and practice evolves you will discover for yourself where and how to correct or challenge yourself via the Prop workout. Not that an in person oversight might reveal something too. Meanwhile devote yourself to the prescribed yoga and strength sessions as able with your schedule, and the hidden jewels of the prop workout will more and more make themselves known...

RE:
Any thought(s) about"Meditation Cross Training"? Specifically varyingon separate days, asitting ( Zazen) meditation with a "Walking meditation". I surfed the internet and found a website www.Buddha.netthat gives "how to instructions" on walking meditation. I am blessed to have nearby public parks that I could use tostart such a program.
i will address this non-SUNRIDER question in light of the fact i know you are patiently waiting in line at the entrance of the WF Online Training Temple...
so long as your Pranic/Chi constitution has not yet undergone Shaktiput or BrahmaGranthi (both terms relate to the initial Clearing and subsequent Kundalini Surge), then
fusion of meditation styles will not do harm and may incite more consistency in the Meditation realms. Having said that however, the more Pranic and Clear we become,
then the fusion of diverse ENERGETIC SYSTEMS is a harsh reality that, in my humble opinion, is largely ignored and sometimes abused given the recent onslaught of 'yoga' styles that unwittingly FUSE things like Tai Chi with Pilates, Tai Chi with Yoga, Chi Gong with Yoga, etc. one must be VERY CAREFUL when mixing about CHI, PRANA, and other Nadic/Chakral energies. Fortunately, most 'teachers' of such quixotic energetic mixers do not have an authentic, nor grounded, grasp of CHI, etc. If they did, they would clearly be able to see and feel the Imbalance impacted upon the 'subtle anatomy.' see, it's stuff like this which is why yoga or any spiritual fitness Path must be taught one one one; teacher to student, guru to devotee...this is precisely why WF Online Study is so important, for one does NOT want to drill their spiritual pursuits in too many places nor dilute the power of their breath/pran over too many various styles. WF Online Teachers know precisely how to SAFELY introduce a conventional fitness enthusiast to the power of their subtle anatomy and develop it wisely.

WHOLISTIC FITNESS QUADRATHLON WORKOUT
from fan mails, i know that many of you enjoy reading about my actual personal workouts. that is because you like reading about my natural capacity for creating Barbaric Workouts that would best be left to Medieval Torture professionals or Vikings...both of whose blood runs in my Teutonic veins. honestly, i steer away from publishing my personal workouts for the most part because the last thing i want is for people to hurt themselves trying to do what i do without the nearly quarter century of daily WF conditioning behind me. as long you understand that the following workout (which is a fairly common one for me) should NOT be attempted verbatim, you may feel free to ADAPT its theme into your own fitness level. Okay? Alright. Here you go and may the WF Gods Bless You if you attempt to mimic it...
WHOLISTIC FITNESS QUADRATHLON WORKOUT
Last Saturday, only three people showed up for my weekend training ride today; me, myself, and i! Fortunately, i was in a fine mindset to go ahead and complete the ride by myself since i had already accomplished three of my four WF Quadrathlon Events planned for the day. Now, this is WF, so this ain't your typical 'physical only' type of workout; in WF i superimpose mental training variables upon physical workouts for unmatched body/mind/spirit progressive training effect.
Event #1: Meditation/Neti - 30 Minutes
wake up early. do not eat. evacuate bowels. go to your Quiet Space. perform a 20 minute Seated Meditation as prescribed by your WF Teacher (for Online WF Students) or as instructed by your spiritual teacher. then, follow your Meditation with Neti (Yogic Nasal Wash). do not eat.
Event #2: Asana - 60 - Minutes
Now, go into your prescribed HP Yoga Routine (for WF Online Students) or perform 60 minutes of asana (yoga posture workout) as directed by your yoga teacher (you can also use any of my three yoga programs in TOTAL BODY TRANSFORMATION or one of my two HP Yoga dvds). or, you could take a yoga class, yet this QUAD is more about inwardly directed awareness; studying your fluctuating mental states as you move through the events and cultivating Dhriti (see Event #3).
Event #3: Dhriti - Permeates Entire Quad Workout
Event #3; consists basically of saying "no" to the ego that is crying for you to eat food before and during Event #4. Dhriti is a yogic term meaning; 'steadiness' or 'steadfastness' and in some texts, such as the Shandilya-Upanishad, it is understood as "mental stability" and is considered a commandment (a mandatory yogic moral discipline aka; a 'yama'). I use going without food as a form of Dhriti. I have taught myself to trust in my Breath/Pran as a powerful source of energy, not just physical food. Apply the following very carefully or you will risk damage to yourself. Event #3 is where your ego will start freaking out. You have been up and active for a hour and a half, and you are feeling like you want a nice breakfast...yet, this is WF and this a WF Quad, you do not eat until after the entire workout. And even then, you minimize food intake. This Quad accomplishes at a cellular level a far deeper, more effective cleanse than mere fasting. This Quad tests the authenticity of your weekly nutrition. if you feed yourself accurately, and have kept your herbs, pranayam, Neti, asana practice strong during the week, you will have plenty of chi to pull this baby off.
i do pity those of you, however, who are not on the SUNRIDER herbs, for if you depend on bio-engineered sport supplements, you will more than likely bonk during Event #4, for this WF Quad is designed to test your CHI CAPACITY, not just physical capacity. My caloric intake for this entire day was 1,200. The next day i did another 60 mile ride and was absolutely flying! Chi is always more powerful than physical food. Many years however, of meditation are required before this Shift from physical food to pranic nourishment can be made.
Event #4: Three and a Half Hour Cardio Workout
wherever you live, whatever form of Cardio you enjoy, do your best to mimic (at YOUR level) what i did solo last Saturday on my road bike:
* one hour warm up (my route entailed a 20 mile warm up over rolling terrain)
*one solid hour of climbing (high Zone 3 Heart Rate; my route led me into a 7,000' climb over 12 miles covering three climate zones! ...from desert palms to 4' walls of snow and ponderosa!...it is soooo fun to be light, fast, and fit! Long live WF!)
* one and a half hours of high leg turnover High Zone 2/Low Zone 3
my actual ride info (for those living near LA) and statistics:
Barell Springs (Palmdale) to and then up above Mountain High Ski Resort to Ski Sunrise this "508" training route of mine features
solo; 60.3 miles, 16.6 mph av, 3:37:59 riding w/o stops.
Congratulations! You have done a great WF Quadrathlon!
Hey, there ain't nothing like WF!
i will trust this Journal Entry will help inspire YOUR upcoming Weekend Workout, even if it means making it
last one minute longer than usual, then, that is one more minute of a human being
being
a
human becoming more BEING!

COACHING TIPS FOR AN INTERMEDIATE ROAD CYCLIST
Wayne Williams, shown here with WF Manager Ananda, who both glow the typical SUNRIDER glow, has come a long, long way since his first bike ride with me two years ago. This fifty-something Warrior has lost an entire Old Self in bodyfat, went from Dangerously High to Elite in medical indicators, and continues to reverse his chronologic age by devoting himself to cycling nearly everyday and of course, ordering his 500 SV each month of SUNRIDER herbs! After today's 70+ mile bike ride out in the Simi Valley at a pace of 17 mph, it rings as clear as Zen Gong to me; that those cyclists that seek out professional coaching and attend to their fitness OFF the bike (Nutrition, yoga, etc) progress at lightspeed compared to those cyclists that think they are going to make great advances by buying fancier equipment and just riding.
i include the below intermediate level bicycle riding tips for those DL readers who are doing their best to make the bicycle what it truly is:
Health Insurance, Practical and Globally Conscious Transportation, Fun, and a vital Pathway Tool for a Spiritual Fitness Warrior!
***
Wayne,
you did sooooooooo well on our ride today!
i cannot tell you how FAST you are moving through these adaptation years in road cycling! you have come so far in two years, i just shake my head. if i had an OUNCE of your natural talent on a bike,
wow...
yet this ain't about me and my feebleness, it's about you:
First,
if i ain't saying a lot to you about your cycling, trust me, that is a GREAT thing!
it means i am Watching you like a Wolf,
and i like what i see.
i don't start fixing things that don't need to be fixed. you have a LOT of
very positive attributes in your cycling.
a couple of Coaching Considerations to Work On:
* keep working, whenever you have the opportunity, on Paceline Finesse i.e.,
maintaining and holding a strong, clean line while in a paceline with minimal
distance between your front tire and the rear tire in front of you,
not accelerating when taking a pull in a paceline,
not allowing gaps to occur (JUMP onto the wheel even if you think you are about to
explode...can't tell you how important it is to commit to following wheels...yang,aggressiveness
is needed in order to find the yin after crucial moments. it is ALWAYS easier in a draft.
* do not pace your effort to the top of a hill (and there is ALWAYS another hill!)
instead ride strong PAST THE TOP OF A HILL
a peleton or a paceline will ALWAYS accelerate approaching a summit; be ready for it.
* your cadence, quiet mind, and pedaling mechanics are a downright joy to behold...and you definitely
can pack a punch in a fast twitch moment, something that i am watching closely and
can easily develop later on. right now? hours and hours in the saddle with stronger riders
than yourself to build Aerobic Capacity. we can easily superimpose your Anaerobic Quality
on top of your Aerobic Capacity later on...for now, however, your sprint ability ain't gonna
mean diddly squat unless you can get yourself near the finish line!
* next year, i would like you to consider beginning to race.
* finally, i suggest cataloging your cycling efforts not in miles. instead keep track of your weekly hours spent cycling.
your body does not register miles (in road cycling in particular, downhills, wind, etc. are all subjective variables that
screw up training amplitude). it does however, register HOURS spent cycling. a general fitness week for a cyclist is
to get in 7-8 hours, with the majority at Zone 2 and no more than 30% at Mid-High Zone 3.
* oh, and you might want to practice your Trackstand in tennis shoes, on your bike. think soft. think still. turn your
front wheel into the uphill terrain, if available.
see you out on the cobbles,

Noblest of Senseis,
Hope this note finds you well.
I have enjoyed tremendously our ongoing threads. Slowly, I TAF the communication is changing the way I think & look at the world. (No "buts" about it.)
The Svadhyaya practice, of reading the Sutras is also ennobling, in that I'm placing extremely positive thoughts & reflections into my subconscious before I sleep. A great deal different from watching the 11 o'clock news before retiring!
Eating Elegantly is becoming more sustained & natural. As a mental exercise, I imagine myself as a leader, sitting in front of the people of his land, and eating elegantly in order to provide the strongest example.
Over the past year, my psycho-physical being has changed in many ways thanks to WF. Even just within the past 10 days, these changes are now being heightened through my closer connection with your direct knowledge & experience.
I bow to you, three times to the West, & again offer my deepest thanks.
Sincerely,

Ain't life grand???; A SUNRIDER Herb exchange with PATRICIA
*Patricia's life has been positively uplifted by following my 3-Phase Approach to the SUNRIDER HERBS. Now, her own Light is beginning to enkindle others! i bow to Patricia!*
HI Coach,
OK, I have figuredout how to navigate the SR website as fas as getting an ID#. Now I have a ? for you.
ILG: well, first, allow me to congratulate you on passing through the test of the SR Garden Temple Gates!
remember, Difficulty is a Divine Design.
If something Bothers you because it is Difficult,
Feeble ilg says, "Enter there!"
ever notice that anything is marketed as convenient, fast, easy is never any go(o)d?
TRISH: My friend would like to join SR.
ILG: that is because he is SMART! Congratulations!
just EAT the Herbs
and you will find yourself directly and indirectly SHARING the Herbs.
then you will find yourself like Joy did today; find a $800+ SUNRIDER check in your mailbox!
Dr. Chen knows this much; Wealth = Nutrition just as important as the Chi From the Herbs!
or as beat poet Gary Synder says,
"Having money produces a...zen like calm."
why should we be rewarded with money to help other people's lives?
money is just energy currency.
it's what you did to make the money that matters most.
making money by sharing SUNRIDER is a superb way, spiritually, to make money.
TRISH: Can he join as a prefered customer and be "under " me?
ILG: YES!!!!!
dat's the Way the SR Game is played!
you will be surprised in the years ahead, just
how benevolent is Dr. Chen's Compensation Plan!!!
TRISH: Will I get credit for his purchases?
ILG: you will!
TRISH: If not, is there another way he can join?
ILG: yes, yet you are doing the right thing by signing him up as a PC.
get him signed up under you and i will get him on my SR specific email list
and tap him into my 3-Phase Approach with you supervising him! fun, eh?!
TRISH: I have been consuming SR more and more, stealing a Sunbar here and there from Konryu. We also have "elimination" talliesto see who poops more in one day. Silly but amusing.
ILG: and HEALTHY!
shit, if more American's would talk more about their shit and less about their gossip,
we would be on the Path of Awakening!
TRISH: When I think that in my youth I used to do that with drinking...so glad I have aquired the wisdom that comes with age and have learned to treat my body with the respect she deserves.
ILG: Right On HERBAL SISTER! sooooo unbelievable are our bodies! Masters of Regeneration and Giving, GIving, Giving!
WE ARE BLESSED by our Bodies!
TRISH: Two evenings ago when I finished doing my Neti Pot and was putting on my Yoga Toes my 13 year old son(who has been Sunriding since he was 8 years old)said to me,
"Mom, where do you come up with these crazy ideas? First the 'nose jug' and now these toe things!"
I justlaughed and smiled. Ain't life grand???

The Path Of Awakening Is A Long One; "Make Haste Slowly"/Student Input/Coach's Counsel on Profuse Sweating
"Dont be in too much of a hurry to solve all your doubts and problems. As the masters say: Make haste slowly. I always tell my students not to have unreasonable expectations, because it takes time for spiritual growth. It takes years to learn Japanese properly or to become a doctor. Can we really expect to have all the answers, let alone become enlightened, in a few weeks?
The spiritual journey is one of continuous learning and purification. When you know this, you become humble. There is a famous Tibetan saying: Do not mistake understanding for realization, and do not mistake realization for liberation. And Milarepa said: Do not entertain hopes for realization, but practice all your life.

Dear Coach,
The Yoga sessions have been feeling like Cardio as well these days with the amount of sweat that has been poooooooouring out of me.
Noble TaMara,
This profuse sweating is known as "prasveda" in yoga and is a training effect from your Pranayam. in the Hatha Yoga texts, the aspirant should be very grateful for this auspicious sign of purifying karma and is encouraged to rub the sweat into the body to help overcome this initial obstacle of profuse sweating.
From the Western perspective, as your Practice continues to mature with constancy, your metabolic and endocrine system
will come into optimal balance, thus triggering a quick, light sweat and very little else. The Masters can operate at seemingly superhuman intensities without
sweating at all.
Student Tamara:After Yoga class on wed. the heartburn and coughing escalated into a huge urge to just throw up. I was not nauseous at all though! It was a very strange sensation to say the least. I had no "issues" all day, then during class my chest turned into a fireball. Heartburn made some of the poses feel almost dangerous. When I opened my mouth to chant a squawk came out starting that coughing fit. It was hard not to laugh to myself as the "subtle anatomy" process took hold of me again. Sheeesh what a ride this is! When I was most uncomfortable in class the teacher would say "Feel your Heart center opening up" urp.. I feel it all right!
Coach Ilg: another perfect Par-For-The-Hole on the Golf Course of the Spiritual Journey. In-Joy the ride! All of these initial Cleansings and Clearings are perfect signs of your devotion to the SUNRIDER Phase I herbs and your WF Online Practice...

ACTUAL ONLINE COACHING FACILITATION WITH STUDENT STILLNESS
Student Stillness, profiled in a DL this winter, is the author of
KEEP AUSTRALIA ON YOUR LEFT and is a professional kayak instructor in New York.
Dear Coach,
I am back to moving my kayaks at solid speeds! The shoulder/neck/buzz is nowhere to be found!
Most Noble Online WF Student Stillness!
Dharma Blessings have Graced our Work two-gether.
RE:
I feel so energized paddling at full clip, this carries over into the next day. The recovery is good and I am able to do it again and again so far.
this feeling is just the begINNING. just keep those WF Morning Rituals strong and sincere. it also helps greatly to be deeply thankful for your fitness throughout your day.
RE:
I am married to WF toilet yoga, neti, pranayama, and the inversion sequence you prescribed. This takes 40 minutes or so each morning as I give each aspect proper awareness.
 perfect!
now,
begin moving from "proper" awareness to Sacred Awareness.
how will you do this?
RE:
What I have lost in the transition so far are full fledged yoga sessions . I have done a spattering of sun salutations and will boost those before and after paddles.
 do not worry about this.
RE:
A very wonderful fellow named Dorian Walter has recently come back from the West Coast and has been taking the US mens K-1 champion to task. He is going to race ona surfskiin Molokai in May. He has great faith that I will make an able K-2 partner with him someday and I must admit that is compelling. I have gotten the race bug again after thinking it was going to take all season to ease myself into higher speed paddling using Wing Paddles and the like.
are you asking me anything here?
RE:
I am very aware of my movements in lifting boats, walking on the dock , picking up a piece of paper off the floor, etc.
 HUGE!
make EVERYthing your Asana; link Movement with Conscious Breath and you will find layer upon layer of Pran permeating the Dance of your Daily Actions. one day, you will find yourself in spontaneous IshvaraPranidhana, for i am piloting your Way toward this Direction.
RE:
My energy and temperament seems very solid and steady.
this Equanimity (ekagrahara) is 'cina'; a positive beacon of your progress in Pranayam. you are on Track, baby!
RE:
I am reengaging with this kayaking thing that I do and finding more enjoyment in presenting it to others.
 yes!
yes!
yes! this part of your sentence is absolutely HUGE! you must SHARE what you have to GIVE!
it was only a short time ago that you were feeling completely burned out, stale, in pain, in fear, etc...now, look!
your consistency in the unique WF Morning Ritual has evidently won you favor with the Gods...i bow to you.
RE:
I must order more sunrider herbs again as my supply has dwindled to the end.
do NOT let that happen! ORDER NOW! the website is open 24/7 for this reason! you have little idea of just how
important this chi-feed to your cells is at this point in your Healing. do NOT miss out on your herbs; as i have written in my books; these herbs are the most uncoachable aspect of what i do; you must make the decision to remain absolutely consistent with my 3-Phase Approach to the SUNRIDER HERBS or you will lose a large, if not invaluable aspect of this Work.
RE:
I TAF that I made a solid and important shift in my shoulder girdle this winter through our training together. Also, I am starting to feel the medicine of the inversion work and the deep chords of strength it builds, slowly but surely.
this is why i have prescribed what i have in the manner i have; slow AND sure...what did i Instruct you about the Word Choice "but"?! Pay ATTENTION!
your Work pivots upon your purification of the veil of Speech (MA!)
RE:
I am tempted by the Intensive you are offering in August. I will know more about its feasibility for me soon.
you have now mentioned two fictional things that waste my time:
you need to order herbs (fiction, no action)
you will let me know about Red Mountain (fiction, no action)
remember, my Instructions to you; Past Tense (actions performed) mean something to my Work with you; not THINGS YOU ARE GOING TO DO...that is fiction and
wastes my time and energies and dilutes our True Work which is only beginning! to a yogin, it is not words that matter,
it is Action!
RE:
From May 13-May23 I will be going to the Galapagos Islands to co-guide a sea kayak adventure. The inversion altar will not be able to make it. I am not sure how much "head" (read toilet) roomtheir on the Catamaran mothership we will be on so I am concerned about my morning ritual for that time period.
do you have a question in that Fear Locked, Fiction-packed paragraph for me? What are you SAYING to me, Student Stillness?
am i Here Now to Serve you...

TEACHER OF YOGA or MERELY A TEACHER OF ASANA? also; LAST WEEKEND'S DHARMA RIDE
"Rest in natural great peace
This exhausted mind
Beaten helpless by karma and neurotic thought,
Like the relentless fury of the pounding waves
In the infinite ocean of samsara.
Rest in natural great peace."
- NYOSHUL KHEN RINPOCHE
***
"A teacher of 'yoga' who does not do regular and intense cardio is no teacher of Yoga. They are a teacher of asana perhaps, not yoga. Yoga means "union." One cannot be a yogin while pushing away the sweat and purushic frontiers within the kingdom of cardio (or strength training). Just because someone has become hypermobile doesn't mean they have mastered anything except an addiction to asana. Without steadying mental forces over egoic excuses during everyday Cardio, the subtle anatomy - the chakras and nadis - cannot be wisely developed and are damaged. The Bardo will require much more than loose joints! I created Divine Action (High Performance) Yoga to embrace all other fitness disciplines, not push them away! If i am 'tight' in a particular yoga pose, great! That means my Edge is that much closer for me to explore! Doing asana while maintaining 7-20 hours of cardio per week is an HP Yoga realm that few are willing to travel, yet i say to you: Exploration of edges must never be limited to asana! Becoming addicted to asana perfection is just as damaging to the purusha (inner Soul) as is being an addict to alcohol or sex or entertainment, etc. Yoga means "All Inclusive."
When i take a "yoga" class and the perky little hypermobile 'teacher' comes to adjust me deeper into a pose after i have just put in 3 hours on my bike, i have to tell her/him "No, i need to honor my edge, right now. thank you." Just because someone is supple means nothing to a WF Yogin. A teacher of yoga should become symmetrical in their physique...and then, their physiologic fitness should become equally as symmetrical; strength, suppleness, cardio, mental, nutrition. That is Base One of Hatha Yoga; the Forceful Union of the Body/Mind.
Spiritual Growth requires wearing the full experience of being human. Specificity is a Low Chakra addiction. As a Divine Action Yogin, i want to see how strong is their suppleness under a heavy Squat Bar? how enduring is suppleness during multi hour cardio intensities?
One day, this country might just Awaken to their Indigenous form of Yoga that has been right under their 'Yoga Journal' noses all along: Wholistic Fitness is a Direct, Traditional Embrace of the Hatha Yogin."

Noble and Precious Carole,
although i represent an amazing lineage of powerful spiritual Teachers,
really, when it comes down to it?
the outer world just "needs" some good ol' fashioned common sense.
seems like common sense
suddenly ain't so common!
* pay attention to your breath and posture.
* breathe and move mindfully each day.
* break a sweat at least once every three days.
* watch children and animals; they are MahaRishis (GreatTeachers)
* give pause before meals; think about what it took to get that food into your mouth; how Blessed are you?
* don't rely on your Dominant Hand too much; it leads to an Imbalanced Way of Being.
* trust yourself, test your trust with sweat and stillness.
* learn to be your own best friend...that means, sitting with yourself in silence
and not dreading doing so!

SUNRIDER WARRIOR "BrandOn" is ON again!
Dear Coach,
The amazing SUNRIDER herbs of Phase 2 have managed to drop another 10 pounds off me in just a little under a month! It's almost as if I could actually see the fat diminish in front of my eyes. Phase 1-2 have knocked a total of 20 pounds off. Since I started Phase 2 I eat less and less but still feel so energized but yet extremely calm and the herbs make working out so much easier!... you can clearly see my results in my before and after picture..
Also, forget about physique changes, check this out: First 5k running race done! Out of 150 runners; my time: 21:40, overall place: 32; Age Group: 7th! This was my first race and I thought I did well for not really working on my time previously to this run. I made sure I took all my SUNRIDER herbs (Ilg supreme, Herb Cal, Veros, Action Caps, Sport Caps, Energy Plus, Beauty Pearl). The herb's definitely pushed me to shatter my previous 3.1 mile run times.
In Peace,
brandOn
Dear BrandOn,
congratulations and buckle up for a LIFE WELL LIVED!
i hate to tell you i told you so, but...
;-)
proud of you!
i too, had an AMAZINGLY FIT, FAST, and FUN weekend riding my road and mountain bike in God's Glorious Gift of Mountains and Coastlines! I LOVE feeling FIT and HEALTHY and FOCUSED!

Ananda,
RED MOUNTAIN SPA!!
i am there!!
the buzz that i feel in all my chakras at the possibility of us all being together is beyond the beyond.
coach always encouraged me to serve. he'd say "don't worry, just serve with your heart and all will be fine". if there is one thing i have learned in all these years...coach was right!
today as i shopped in a local farmers market for CHI filled whole foods, i realized in each breath i am serving. each thought is serving in some way. a potential student approached me and commented on my posture. she asked if i was a yoga teacher. i nearly fell out. as i forget sometimes i AM a yoga teacher. with yoga being just a branch of WF....i forget;-) i said yes and began to share some WF dharma talk as she asked several questions.
WF in every moment baba!
i love you all.

"Enlightenment isn't a redpoint. It is an on-sight!!"
- Master WF Online Student Sean "Abu" Madine
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people wont feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

- Online Student JJ
Noble Student JJ,
what did i teach you about the WF Word Choice Guru of the word "but." ? delete this word from your vocabulary for anything that follows the "but" is usually, as the saying goes, the horses ass. if you re-read your sentence omitting the word, then you have a Positive In-sight.
with the word in your sentence,
you can sense just how quick your ego is to rationalize, to grasp, instead being in Awe of how effective and fast is this Path. we are only a Fitness Path, yet we are erasing dis-ease from your body!
appreciate the fact: WF introduced you to this ancient, wholistic technique of Neti. now, within comparable milliseconds, this gentle teaching is erasing a chronic dis-ease of yours. yet, you sound only stoked and then you seem to be grasping so fast,
not slowly appreciating the Journey the Process of re-Dis-covering yourself!
slow down.
Things Take Time.
your eyes itch because they hold the greatest amount of amino acids...the SUNRIDER Herbs and Neti and Morning Ritual is safely recentering your immunology and is Clearing gunk from your cells...

Saturday: The Decker Canyon Demon God Ride!
need purification for all your Weekly sins!?
me too.
better double dose the Ilg Supreme SUNRIDER herbs beginning tomorrow to get ready for this one!
if you are NOT on the SUNRIDER herbs, well,
i pray for you!
regardless of fitness,
this ride will make you drop to your fucking knees and cry to the AwlMighty that you are BLESSED to be ALIVE in Southern California!
features an ego numbing roll along Mullholland, tester ascent of Rock Store climb, descent down Decker Canyon (which will remain sacredly etched into the deepest chambers of your brain (see picture of this descent on my DIRECT LINES this past week), followed by Big Chain Ring seaside spinning before a long, uphill grind h(om)e.
NOTE: the following Route Plan has been made easier than the Ilg Original to accommodate the less-than-superhuman (:-):
* my casa south to Malibu Cyn via Ventura and Mureau Road
* Right onto Mullholland (M'land) west to...uh...well, the ocean! okay, so there is ONE veering off onto Decker Cyn Road yet it comes so far into the
ride that you could not care less...
* Left onto PCH (stands for Pacific Coast Highway...need MORE really be said?)
* Left onto and upward into Malibu Cyn
* Right onto Piuma
*Left onto the scorchingly steep and brave: Cold Canyon. hint; your legs will crack like broken glass right here!
* Right onto M'land and the chance to be Captain Kirk-like and lead your sorry ass up 7-Minute Hill which has by now
transformed into like 17-Minute Hill
* and back h(om)e.
estimated miles: who cares!? okay, plan on, uh...70...there, you happy you Math nuts?!
estimated time: you will be go(o)d for nothing for the rest of the day so what does it matter?
Sunday: The Classic Reseda-To-The-Sea MTB route!
oh, like i LOOK like a roadie?
no way dude; cross it up and be WHOLISTIC!
this route should be sprinkled in GOLD CHAIN LUBE
for its place in North American Mountain Biking History!
the very shoulders upon whom we enjoy fat tire on dirt used to race this route...
in fact, if you listen closely when you are sweating mostly
on this route
you can hear John Tomac's finesse on the descent toward Sunset!
you can feel the lactic acid of Overend accumulate in your thighs as you begin the 'relentless' uphill from Sunset Blvd to Topanga ridgetop
you can sense the mind waves of Victor Vincente as you traverse among wildflowers and scurrying lizards toward Eagle Rock!
yup,
the Great Ones used to race this baby,
back in the day
the Real Day,
on Sunday i will honor this Legacy Route by my own sweat, my own spirit...
will you?
* my casa south up paved Reseda
* Right onto dirt M'land
* Left toward the Hub
* Right toward then plummet down Temescal Cyn
* Right onto Sunset Blvd.
* Right onto the 10 mile+ dirt climb of Paseo MiraMir (ain't so baaaaad!)
* Right onto Peak To Peak MotorWay to the Hub to retrace route h(om)e.
estimated mileage: 30
estimated time: i've done it in UNDER 2.25 hours moving very, very fast! we will NOT be moving that fast on Sunday!
NOTE: both of these rides start at 9:15 am from my casa (9:15 am as in SHARP!...my cell phone will be on by eight o'clock: 818 590 2922).
NOTE #2 (or 1b if you prefer): both of these rides are NO DROP rides! we will regroup at pivotal places throughout each ride. no ONE goes home solo or sad!
NOTE #3: this week i have seen in the Santa Monica's: a Turkey Vulture, a Condor, two Double Breasted Commorants, Rattlesnakes, beautiful Bikini clad babes with warm and sensual salutations, Red Tailed Hawks, those rare half-salamander/half-snake lizards (i had to bunny hop over a most brilliant one in Sycamore Canyon), an amazing Sharp-Skinned Hawk, Cliff Swallows, deer, a "host of golden daffodils" and numerous other wildflowers far too beautiful to be limited by name and....... Pran. Lots and lots of Pran!
NOTE #4: it would make my Heartspace happy to see you this weekend!

FALLING IN LOVE WITH HIS AWAKENING; ONLINE STUDENT MICHAEL T!
In Yoga, sweat is known as 'dharma substance.' Most people think of sweat as nothing more than bothersome. To me,
sweat is 'holy water'...it is the shower of self purification that oozes away our accumulated negative traits and unconscious
patterns. Personally, i would not let my 'dharma substance' be absorbed by anything less than our new Wholistic Fitness Sweat Towels, available today at the WF Tribal Catalog. Don't Sweat In Anything Less! Get Tribal, baby!

"I'm going to plant a heart in the earth..." A BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE FROM ANANDA's 38th BIRTHDAY
****
DL readers whom have been with me throughout these wonderful years, know well my yogic take on chronologic birthdays. They are absolutely meaningless save for one thing; they can be useful as yearly spiritual cairns to make sure we are appropriately challenging our fitness and our utter desire to savor our lives by living them fully and with the gratitude expressed through sweat and stillness.
This DL is a birthday tribute to a most beautiful Being, an angel of WF whom i know as "Ananda"... Joy Kilpatrick. These days, since beginning her WF Journey, she has chosen conscious Movement over doing movies. Instead of being on stage and TV as an actress, she is contributing to the ongoing legacy of WF through managing, administration, and her amazing gift for Teaching, both online and privately.
Noble DL Reader, please enjoy this collection of captured images of the last couple of days, as i treated Ananda to just a tiny segment of the IMMENSE BEAUTY that dances within our local Santa Monica mountains, just a breath away from LA's monstrosity of outer directed chaos.
i chose the words of one of Native American poet Rosario Murillo to set the spirit of each pic. i bow to Rosario.
Happy Birthday WF Manager Ananda...your Devotion and stalwart Practice along this Path keeps my humble Temple doors open for all those still willing to pursue a Higher Consciousness to Health and Fitness through spiritual training. I bow with love to you, Oh Noble Warrioress of the WF Way! Ain't it FUN to be WHOLISTICALLY FIT!!!!!!!?!?!??! You ain't getttin' older, you just growing HIGHER, baby!!!

ZEN MIND, BEGINNERS MIND....and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANANDA!
after working with WF Teacher Ananda in structured zazen, i test her zen skills by taking her climbing. i do this so she can apply Zen focusing abilities while in a challenging situation. The fear of falling causes most conventionally trained 'zen people' to completely, utterly lose all their zafu prowess the moment their ego's feel ankle breaking air beneath their britches. i train my Warrior Athletes differently; i want my students to ANIMATE their zen fitness by taking risks to ensure their focus is strong and sincere and capable of sustaining beginning Bardo Training (moment of death preparation). Here, Birthday Girl Ananda, cranks some plastic...HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANANDA...THANK YOU FOR YOUR MANAGEMENT and DEVOTION OF OUR HUMBLE TEMPLE!
***
As many of you know, i am very mindful about suggesting reading assignments. only a few 'spiritual' books are to me like the SUNRIDER herbs; wholesome, can do no harm, can only help ignite what already lies within.
One of the first books that was suggested to me, many years ago, was D.T. Suzuki's classic book; ZEN MIND, BEGINNERS MIND. you may know i suggest this book to my TBT readers. Below, you will see why i have authorized my Online Teaching Staff to suggest this book for Students of WF. you will feel the worth of the book through Online Student Featherman's beautiful insights as he draws connections between Suzuki's teachings and the world of WF Training.
may it help your Practice and i bow to Noble Online Student Feather from the Haku Clan...

Coach Haku Teacher Sensei Jomanji:

All I Need To Know I Learned in Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind.

This is a very profound book. I actually picked it up a long time ago, and read it after Ilg recommended it in TBT. It's a little too profound to just casually pick up and read, though. Actually, the book itself embodies the teachings within the book: simple, to the point, shedding everything not essential or necessary to the teaching.

As to the assignment, I can't really "identify five things I learned from the book." The book needs to be breathed in. But five things that stand out:
1. The chapter on breathing, where he says taht "when we practice zazen, all that exists is the movement of the breathing," and to be aware of this movement means to be aware of our buddah nature. The thing that struck me here was his explanation that "you and I are just swinging doors." I really FELT this one when meditating a couple of times, where I was completely in the groove, and I felt connected to the UniVerse through the breath. I also, as I told you before, felt this when doing a tough climb. I would like to carry this into all areas of life

2. Mind Weeds. In this chapter, Suzuki says we should be grateful for the obstacles to our practice, since, like weeds, they eventually enrich our practice. Too often when meditating I get down on myself - I have monkey mind, I can't do anything but daydream etc. But instead, Suzuki says that if we work through the difficulties, we enrich our practice. Sort of a take on embracing difficulty.

3. The whole idea of having no "gaining ideas" is profound. By letting go of seeking an outcome - be it in meditation, cycling, yoga, life- we can more fully embrace the moment. So it is the process that matters, not the result. "When you do something, just to do it should be your purpose." I really took this to heart in the gym and on runs and on the bike this cycle. So instead of thinking about how lifting would make my biceps look bigger or better or something, I just got into the lift itself, executing it with good form, and concentrating on the thing itself.

4. No Trace. Here Suzuki says that when we do something, we must "burn yourself completely, like a good bonfire, leaving no trace of yourself." I love this. This is, I think, another way of doing things without attachment to the results, without a gaining idea. Thus, when doing something, we must do it completely in the moment, using our whole minds and bodies. This is an extremely intense idea for the warrior I want to be. Too often, for example, I hold a little back -- I can't give it my all here, I might get dropped, or I might be too tired tomorrow, or I might burn myself out. The whole point is to do it in such a way that you do burn out, so there is nothing left, no ego, no thought.

5. Throughout the book, Suzuki emphasizes doing, not philosophising. This is a particular issue for me. Too often I step behind the intellect to put distance between myself and my experiences. So I analyze what I am doing, rather than just doing. For some things, I must intellectualize - for example, certain legal things I do for a living. But for what matters, the thing is to do rather than to think. This is a tough one for me, but one to which I am rising to the challenge.

I read the book twice, just to embrace it. No doubt I will read it many more times.

Peace,
Feather
Coach Ilg and Coach Sheader,
Your willingness to share your knowledge, set the pace, and provide guidance
and support are sincerely appreciated. (That is as understated a sentence
as has ever been written but I know you know what I mean and how I feel

Thank you for everything.

MEDITATION AND BURNING IMPURITIES: Karl's Karmic Clearing Begins!
* Student Karl of WF Teacher Haku Clan,
Dear Coach,
Meditation - I am reading and studying "How to know God" and "The Royal Path". This stuff spooked me a bit at first. Overwhelmed by its simplicity and clarity. I feel that I am starting to understand the "why" much more. And my zazen sessions are always without "medicine" - except for the Mala Beads from Coach. This part of the practice really got to me a few times this session. So much so that I found myself pushing back from it a bit. I have had a very small glimpse of what concentration might be like and some overwhelming emotions - sometimes much grief and pain, sometimes great joy, others times just calm. I like the calm part the best.
- Student Karl
* Noble Student K-
listen to me closely for you are entering a new Layer of your WF Studies...
be not attached to what part you "like" the "best."
meditation must erase the conditioned and karmic dualities of your present View.
the fear of the Simplicity and your Resistance to what is Deep
is china (positive sign of spiritual progress) for it tells me that your Impurities are Burning... your lower chakras are starting to rock and roll your ego structures. as my Teacher told me through this Stage:
"Such courage to take this journey of the fire. From my experience, repetition accompanies this burning...layers...cycles...circles. If there is truely a purity in one's intent to be free...success is inherent. The fire of refinement will surely guide one... all impurities will eventually be cleansed. It takes the utmost seriouness of intent to accomplish this. And in the depth of this seriousness lies the light. Who said mastery was for sissies."
Take care Brave Online Warrior,
WF Online is Steep and Direct Path of Transformation.
this is NOT about what feels good, comfortable, or calm.
It's about not watering down the FIRE of TRANSFORMATION!
we are right Here Now with you!

came through me during this morning's Practice.
As i continue to soften and open within,
a sacred joy, like dawn light,
tip toes into all my painful tissues and wounded states of mind.
My Journey of Yoga - which is not different from my Path of WF -
has been and continues to be a largely intuitive exploration
into the layers of myself
and...at essential Levels;
the delightful nescience of "self".
I sense, during these past several years of yoga,
- after having shaken loose my addiction to competitive sports and high mountains -
a vital hypertrophy of my spiritual self was forced upward through my egoic sheaths
and an atrophy of my negative tendencies and fears occurred.
Witnessing such dancing states of Self Awareness
are much easier to see, feel, explain, and cultivate using yogic
terms and notions. Yet, as a Western body/mind fitness teacher, i am devoted
toward bringing my sangha along with my experience of healing through yoga
using terms and notions that will not alienate my fellow Western travelers along the Noble Way.
It is nearly impossible to make money doing this in this epoch, yet i must remain true to my SoulWork
nothing else matters more to me.
I trust;
if i keep my personal Practice strong,
Brahman will continue to Gift me creative, expressive, and inspirational Ways to
enhance my Work and feed my Sangha.
I will become a stronger, more supportive bridging Source to unify Eastern spiritual science
with Western fitness and lifestyle modalities. This Work certainly seems to be direly needed
in America's current addiction to choices that lead to obesity, entertainment and grasping
in place of spiritual fulfillment, inner-attainment and concentration.
No template exists for me as the pioneering yet feeble Messenger
of this humble, yet Powerful Path of "spiritual transformation through personal fitness training."
There seem to be many experts of the body, many experts of the mind, yet where are the
warriors who have combined both and express their grasp of spirituality through their
sweat-chiseled bodies? I see much hypocrisy in the body/mind fitness world, thus
i continue to look within for Guidance, not outwardly.
Like my students who inspire me each day,
I must continue to develop Faith,
stay Focused,
and Practice harder, deeper, softer
not just for me, yet for the sake of all Beings everywhere.
It's not about all the people who are not reading DL, not buying my books, not eating the herbs, not studying WF Online...
it's not about all the people who choose not to Practice...
it's not about all the people who choose comfort over sweat...
it's about the strength of my personal Practice.
Sweat, Spirit, Sharing:
these have all-Ways been the three roots of my humble Temple.
thus it shall remain so.
So be it.
Om Tat Sat.
May each human rekindle
his or her innate desire for Awakening The Heart
and may each human develop the
tapas (inner burning desire) for Enlightenment...the top step of the podium for the Human Race.

Why can't every day be happy? Why can't every encounter be constructive? OK. Let's stop right there. We don't need to ask any more questions. Every day can't be happy because every encounter has to be constructive. Just ask any builder. Sometimes, before things can be built up, they have to be knocked down. Sometimes, too, a lot of hard dirty work has to happen before something delightful can emerge. Oh, one more thing you need to know this week. Sometimes, it is only through making mistakes that we ever learn anything useful.

Buddha Truth/Real Warrior; WF Student Scott Richardson Sends Love From Afghanistan

Sometime, somewhere you need to take something to be the truth. But if you cling to it too strongly, then even when the truth comes in person and knocks on your door, you will not open it.

Finding it hard to create the time for your meditation today?
Is your manas (lower mind) already manufacturing egoic excuses for you to sidestep your workout today?

Thank you for your ways, thank you for sharing them. So many lessons from WF I have appliedthroughout thisdeployment, which hasturned me into amore spiritual and more healthyperson.

A Knock Upon My Humble Temple Door...
Who Dare Knock Upon My Temple Door!?
"The face of a true teacher should embody everything that most of us shy away from; soul, love, fear, awe, experience, leaness, and yet be enraptured by the Moment." - pat robbins
Coach Ilg,
Today a man approaches to the Gateway of your humble Temple of Spiritual Fitness. He knocks on the door, bows his head, his heart filled with anticipation that a Teacher on the other side will open the door and greet him. A Teacher opens the door; the man asks in a humble, gentle and dignified voice, I wish to learn the Ways of Spiritual Fitness. The Man is middle aged, perhaps not as strong, agile or flexible as students who have gone before him. The Teacher asks, why do you seek knowledge of Spiritual Fitness? The Man replies with a simple answer, I leave my ego and a lifetime of bad habits behind the door of your Temple. I seek knowledge so that I can repair my body, learn new ways, grow as a person and live my remaining years in peace and harmony with others and the earth that I walk upon. The Man has only one humble request from his Teacher; that he be treated with compassion, respect and be filled with patience.
As per your request, I will enter the Gateway to your Temple the same as fellow students had gone before. I forwarded my online application along with my payment. I await your humble response.
Your hopeful WF Student
Alan Gutman
If any of you choose to study WF Online, like the hundreds of brave warriors and warrioress's before you...rest assured,
the sun will quickly set, in a most evocative Way, upon your current Way of Seeing. Are you ready, like Knocking Seeker Gutman, to be truly Transformed? If so,
i
await
your
Knock
with
compassion
and
such Love...
i bow to you, Brave Warrior!

PURITY OF INTENT
{a MTB Warrioress enjoys riding through a canopy of giant manzanita on
"The Secret Trail" one of my backyard trails here in LA}
last week in DL (what a week it was!) i spoke about Seriousness Of Devotion and Purity Of Intent...
Sogyal Rinpoche offers this beautiful story which illustrates, i feel, just how valuable it is to appreciate
our workouts. I have always said that "Sweat is just another name for Holy Water," and if we can be
brave enough to sweat through our negative tendencies and unAware habits, a Buddha like Light will
soon illuminate WF Lifestyle Principle Number 3: our most Appropriate Action within the moments of
our lives. Are you grasping, or are you concentrating? I love you all for choosing the Higher Path
to your Fitness, your Herbs, and, most of all, yourself!
enjoy your Sun-Day,
i'm off to ride my bike in the Santa Monica Mountains...the wildflowers are, well, WILD!
here is another shot of the Secret Trail with Santa Monica Bay and LA hovering in the distance!
We are all SOOOO Blessed to be able to sweat and sing within God's Noble Playground; Mother Nature!

At the time of Buddha, there lived an old beggar woman called Relying on Joy. She used to watch the kings, princes, and people making offerings to Buddha and his disciples, and there was nothing she would have liked more than to be able to do the same. But she could only beg enough oil to fill a single lamp. However, as she placed it before Buddha she made this wish: I have nothing to offer but this tiny lamp. But through this offering, in the future may I be blessed with the lamp of wisdom. May I free all beings from their darkness. May I purify all their obscurations, and lead them to enlightenment.
That night, the oil in all the other lamps went out. But the beggar womans lamp was still burning at dawn, when Buddhas great disciple Maudgalyayana came to collect the lamps. He saw no reason why one lamp was still alight and tried to snuff it out. But whatever he did, the lamp kept burning.
Buddha had been watching all along, and said: Maudgalyayana, do you want to put out that lamp? You cannot. You could not even move it, let alone put it out. If you were to pour the water from all the oceans over this lamp, it still wouldnt go out. The water in all the rivers and lakes of the world could not extinguish it. Why not? Because this lamp was offered with devotion, and with purity of heart and mind. And that motivation has made it of tremendous benefit.

THE HEALING GROWTH OF THE PATH OF YOGA
"My Journey of Yoga - which is not different from my Path of WF -
has been and continues to be a Journey
into the layers of myself and...at essential Levels; the lack of my "self."
Unawareness becomes Comprehension.
Impossibility turns into Implausibility.
And mere Possibilities turns into beautiful, dancing, daily Practicalities."

ROAD WARRIOR FITNESS & "FOLLOWING THE MASTER'S FOOTSTEPS"; Coach's March Training Summary
Ananda's legs...a Yogini of superb, consistent WF Practice, i taught WF Online Teacher Ananda my "Road Warrior" Practice Routines...which pivot upon early morning neti, pranayam, and inversions which can all be done within 15 minutes yet drastically empower the entire day! Note the use of YogaToes...a training tool for WF Warriors which open chi lines throughout the body/mind.

Dear Coach,
this past couple months of DL have been amazing! instead of reading the fucked up (sorry!) "news" in the "newspapers", i now look forward to reading DL each morning with my coffee (sorry, again!). i cannot tell you how your "Path" and your "feeble" fitness efforts positively impact my own life! I know you are all into the SUNRIDER herbs and perhaps one day, i will take that jump too, but for now, i just wanted to let you know how much "nutrition" i get each day from your generous, brave, and fucking (sorry!) incredible lifeview and living embrace of what FITNESS really means! How come YOU are not training Oprah or doing those Morning Fitness TV shows?! People need your stuff, man! Anyway, i have been reading about your travels over the past few months and since i travel a ton, what do you do to 'warm up' for your day while traveling...what do you do when you are away from your home to center yourself while traveling?
again, thank you for being you...truly you! putting your stuff out into the world has really meant a lot to me!"
- Carey, MA
Most Noble Fitness Warrior and Mighty Minded Reader of DL!
wow!
my knees crumble and my heart dances as my eyes linger over your words of metta! thank you. all i am doing is what my Teachers have requested,
"Be brave in that which you love and be braver to share it."
When i travel, two things are pivotal to my day beginning;
1) Neti/Pranayam (yogic nasal washing & yogic breathing)
and
2) Inversions.
Basically, upon awakening i just make sure, no matter what, that i take care of these two Practices. In Online Training, i choreograph specific routines for my traveling students based upon their individual needs. Personally, i have a Short Form, Medium, and Long Form of the 2 Pivotal Practices. The Short Form requires 15 minutes.
{A WF Warrior's hotel room; my 'cross bike, SUNRIDER herbs on the table, a new prototype of YogaToes, and an inversion device.}
Personally, i have not a choice. I must begin each day with taking care of myself through yogic rituals otherwise, i am in severe and chronic pain from my smashed pelvis and fractured spine.
To begin my Traveling Day Practices i put on my YogaToes, defecate, do some 'Toilet Yoga', then do Neti, Pranayam then into a Inversion (Headstand) sequence which consists of Inverted Hip Openers, Backbends, and Inverted Twists (see above photo). The training effect from such a quick inverted sequence completely empowers, invigorates, and balances hormonally and organically, my body so i can lead a Warrior Day!
Thank you for your question and keep enjoying DL!

Coach Ilgs WF Monthly Training Averages:
March, 2005
27th Year of WF Training
Predominant Quote Epitomizing This Months Practice:
Yoga is said to be the unification of the web of dualities.
- Yoga-Bija (84)
IntraDisciplinary Statistics
All Month Priorities Were All Attained Or Surpassed!
STRENGTH: 5 x for 2.75 hours
CARDIO: 33.25 hours
YOGA: 47.25 hours
MEDITATION: 23.50
NUTRITION: average calories per day: 1050
Predominant Training Interpretations Within Each Fitness Discipline:
ST: still shocked that such a low hourly volume packs such quality; each minute
of those 2.75 hours was rich with yogic breathing, high mental focus, and supreme intensity. in my older age it truly feels like i am embodying the WF Maxim; less is more. ST, was for me,
during this cycle a refuge of deep fiber in-tasies. my only wish was that other fitness warriors could find such inner yoga, such inner joy within the Iron Temple.
CV: after winning Mt. Taylor and the 508, i decompressed this month in Cardio. took to the high mountains during my meditation retreat to immerse myself in one of the best winters the southwest has ever had; tele skiing, nordic skiing, easy jogs, cross cycling. still managed to pull out three podium placings in the local training race workouts against Cat 1/2s. very rewarding; the magic of WF jumps and dances within all the Disciplines. will start ramping up this Discipline in April.
YOGA: a whopping 47.25 hours of asana has paid of richly in breaking down the adhesions within my R. quadratus lumborum, esp @ the 12th rib situation. femural inward rotation within the bonded tissue at the capsule is turning out to be Heaven Inside! the leveling out of the pelvic elevation has officially turned from an ongoing torture session into Nalanda! the Edge now flirts and dances with my Awareness and seduces me in Kundalic ways! i cannot believe how delectable it feels to move the Brahmanic Breath around, into, and within such old wounds, imbalances, and Divine Gateways! Jiva Mukti, baby! go ilg! broken back? paralysis? aint no thang for this Endless Warrior! just keep working out within, ilg! jao!
MEDITATION: focus of the month was retreat with Mahanidrarishi B in Flagstaff beneath the Crystal Pyramid and in Sedona at the Bell Rock vortex. Most work was done within the chakral and Third Dimension and all of this was facilitated by Maharishi. {remainder of this meditation input not publicly available for safety sake}. Pranayamic fitness continues to be the Accelerator to my meditations and really seems to be scrubbing away at samskaric residue and acts as a highlighter to all amma. An unplanned momentary immersion into sahajasamadhi was directly felt by Ananda during an early morning pranayam beneath the Sacred Mountain...i feel confident that by 75, my etheric fitness will be right on track for navigation of the Bardo. this month gave me another layer of confidence for dying consciously, elegantly, and nearly enthusiasticallly! just like ski jumping, baby; i want to hit the lip of the jump (maharecaka) with superb fitness, confidence, and appropriate visualizations...you can do it, ilg! jao! just keep cultivating the Inner Garden! No fear!
NUTRITION: absolutely insane! even with my relative caloric indulgences this month compared to last, never once was a day filled with hunger...only energy and flight across the fitness spectrums! my LifeRecord of calories injested versus calories expressed just fries the conventional Western wisdom of eating! its all about developing the Pranic fields, trusting in IsavaraPranidhana, and remaining Awake to the Inner Signals, not the Ego Flamboyancy! SUNRIDER herbs revealed yet another Layer of penetrating Chi as my early morning bowel movements have produced a clarity that enriches Uddiyana in my pranayams like never before! Apana can now be tethered consciously and steered up my axial etheric architecture...witnessing this stuff is just...FUN! and so powerful!!! Mastery of bodily energy certainly requires the Mastery of food, first. As in the ShivaSamhita, it is said that the yogi that Practices consistent will be Blessed by finding (among other Tools) secret herbs....i certainly found mine; SUNRIDER! i must keep working so as to not be attached to these herbs, yet to use them wisely so i hit age 75 flyingly fit for my Samyoga! My monthly goal of: Dont Eat Till You Earn It was violated only on two occasions.
Predominant Training Quote Arising:

Flow to Live!
