Steve,

Here's an observation that you may be able to share some insight on:

I've been taking the Slim Caps and Action Caps with FD for the past few
months. Once I noticed my system was "cleaned up" a bit, I had less of an
appetite...not that my appetite was that big in the first place.

With travel and some other external factors I let override my nutrition,
I stopped taking the Slim Caps, Action Caps and FD for a couple of two-
week stretches. Otherwise my diet did not change. Here's what happened:
My girth increased quite quickly, although my scale weight didn't budget
much. We're talking about pants that were comfortable two weeks ago are
not uncomfortably tight.

I go back on the SR routine and within two weeks, everything shrinks
again.

I've gone back and forth like this a few times and there is a definite
pattern. Naturally, I don't want to be popping Slim Caps and Action Caps
the rest of my life. Kind of defeats the purpose.

My theory is that once my body was "cleaned," I was able to absorb more
nutrients from my food. Let's say I was absorbing 75% of my food before
SR and after SR, I'm absorbing 95%. Well, I have to eat even less food to
get the same nutritional equivalent. If I keep using the same gas with a
more efficient engine, I'll get more mileage (increase in waistline!).

Is this a valid theory or is my metabolism just hitting another low point?

hak

Most Noble Herbal Warrior Hak -

i would like to remind you that your theory is as valid as it feels to YOU! that is all-ways the most important validity in anything we encounter in life.

it seems to me however, that you are superimposing a Western mindset on an Eastern energy philosophy.

eating Slim or Action Caps your whole life is not defeating anything except the accumultation of lethargy within your cells. lethargic physiology = fat.

eating Slim or Action Caps is no different that eating apples or oranges your whole life.

i have been eating Slim and Action Caps for very nearly half my entire life. when i look around, i don't see many men my age capable of keeping up with me in anything actually, and my bodyfat percentage now hovers around 5% without struggling in my "diet." i just eat the SUNRIDER herbs for my nutrition and enjoy a little bit of 'regular' food for roughage, taste, social gathering, and some calories.

remember, SUNRIDER is based upon nourishing gathering and dispersing MOVEMENT in your body.

it is NOT concerned with calories, which is the Western mind's attempt to stop, hold onto, and then count somehow, the natural movement of energy (qi or pran) which animates the molecules of our body. a dead body is still composed of matter (calories), but it is the qi or the life force that animates that matter. SUNRIDER expertly, accurately, and POWERFULLY nourishes the movement of qi within your system. but first, the herbs have to prepare your organ systems to handle the enhanced upgrade of energy. so be patient
and most of all
be consistent with the herbs
do not miss a day
herbs need to saturate your body
to bring
the balance of rhythm
and pulse of life force
so
ilg says
forget about metabolism setpoints
and
enjoy the Dance of Life Force
as you
enjoy the herbs
which
cultivate that
very
Dance within you!

i hope this helps...

RE: the slim caps would further increase this

rate of fat cell ozidation/loss...yes?

slim caps are really more about de-toxification, which is why SUNRIDING rids the need for fasting which only depletes chi from the cells and weakens the structural and ground substances of the cell matrix. Slim caps target the liver, making the entire physiology and chi of the lower digestion come online in a big way...but yes, a significant role of slim caps is also concerned with enhanced membrane proficiency of all cells, particularly non thermogenic adipose tissue.

Rid your body of its impurities,
let your speech be true and sweet,
feel friendship for the world, and
with humility seek wealth and knowledge.
- yoganjalisaram, sloka 26
krishnamacharya

i dont pretend to know, nor do i personally care, what are the life priorities of other men my age. ive got my own hands full...i need to soften and spread my toes.

thats right. im talking toe spread. if you are a conventionally trained fitness enthusiast or new to my style of transpersonal fitness philosophy, you better buckle up. it might be rough sailing for you over the next few paragraphs. my premise; the state of our toe spread has much to do with our personal and spiritual growth.

right now, the bulls work of my feeble march toward Enlightenment in this lifetime is centered upon increasing the suppleness of spread between my toes.

you may find this rather odd and certainly not a priority for someone just opening their own business along with a host of ongoing matters and circumstance. but if i know if i can keep softening my brittle toes and spreading them wider apart from one another, my solidarity in life will increase. a holistic training effect will emerge from my more supple toes. since each toe is inextricably linked to one of five major organ systems, my entire organic and hormonal balance and function will improve. even my chakras will benefit from simply making my toes more supple. but this spreading and softening of my toes demands intense concentration and consistency. that will also benefit me, since those are two primary qualities which will, in the long term, further stabilize my mental energies for advanced spiritual progress.

you see my beautiful fitness sadhus, those are not just TOES down there latched mysteriously onto your feet. no sirree Bob. them there are energetic portals, hooked up to the powerful voltage of your nervous system. the more brittle your toes, the more brittle your internal organs. and in WF, were not into shutting down and being stiff. we use personal fitness to open and embrace and accept. a very, very good place to start is with your toes.

in the spreading of my toes lies the next expansion of my self.

my ten toes have suffered lifelong abuse from being stuffed into ski racing boots, mountaineering boots, motocross boots, and that was just an appetizer for a decade of ultra running, consistently running over 100 miles per week. by the time i switched from running into cycling i had already further suffocated my toes for another decade by jamming them each day into rock climbing slippers fitted so tight so as to make my forehead bleed.

so my journey into softening, aligning, and spreading my toes has been a daily battledance since i started doing daily asana practice seven years ago. but yesterday, i hit a yogic jackpot.

during my solo practice i finally stumbled upon a key ingredient to my toe spread. i laid upon my back, feet in air and squeezed an 8 lb medicine ball between my knees (to deepen Mula Bandha, a yogic internal lock which makes asana practice much more pointed and poignant).

lying there in my home zendo like a stinkbug turned belly up, i flickered and fussed my feet and ankles around for a solid ten minutes. i was just exploring without attachment or technical concern. it came to me in a flicker of awakening; if i strongly dorsi flexed my feet i reached a state of deep relaxation through the shin muscles. sustaining the relaxed response, i pressed like an accelerator my feet into plantar flexion but maintained the alignment of the navicular tendons. in that moment of pressing, a completely new array of nerves came online! i could actually - for the first time in my life - draw my hammered, ignored, abused little toe AWAY from the others!

it felt AMAZING!
my toes LOVED it! i felt something deep release in my heart area, near the back. my toes were zinging with life force... an infant network of pran started feeding my internal organs...this was rich stuff!

this was reflexology not given away to somebody else...it was MY self-induced reflexology and i can now do it anytime i want because
i
have
learned
my
own way
with
my
own
feet
using
the strength of my own mind
not
someone
elses.

this type of breakthrough
though completely irrelevant to anyone but me,
is the best example of
what i think true
person-al
fitness
is all about, baby!

its so much fun...
watching your toes spread from a state of contraction
toward one of healthy expansion...
is the same as watching your entire self
navigate the same transformation.

i guess what i am saying is,
that watching my toes spread
is to me
a million more times more fun
then
watching
TV.

May your Practice be TOE-taly strong and sincere...

"There is the practice of yoga

-Yoganjalisaram by Krishnamacharya

In ten minutes, my beautiful Greg "Kalyana Mitra" Diaz will finish teaching the inaugural class at my brand new High Performance Yoga studio on Ventura Boulevard, in Tarzana, CA.

As surely as today's ambitious sun dances upwards into the tired reach of night, a new chance for positivism, personal growth, and peacefulness arises in LA from a small space where formerly, none existed. Ripples make waves. If but one customer starts to feel better about the quality and potential of their life and begins to feel their natural state of unconditional Joy...even if for a moment...then my job, and the efforts of all the angels who helped me created this ripple of yoga in this big city, has been faithfully served.

Before leaving home at age 17, my mom told me, "Steve, just be good, and do good. Just try to be kind to people."

Now, forty-one years old, i still do my best to uphold those noble instructions. It's difficult making one's unique, self supported Way in the world by being honest and kind. Dragon forces are everywhere. For me, i sliced my way through the Darkness by competitive outdoor sports which were masking themselves as a gateway into yoga. Really, each are one in the same. All paths lead to yoga, say the Masters. What they meant was, "Whatever you do, do it impeccably and with devotion and perseverance you will ultimately find union." Well, today, and at least for the next four years, you can enjoy practicing yoga with me and my truly gifted staff as we help each other along the amazing Way of our unique and sacred journeys.

I bow to you. I know how hard the struggle of awareness is. It is as difficult as living a good and noble life. But the difficulty is intended. It separates the warriors from the quitters. By devoting ourselves to Difficulty we find ourselves in fact, freed from it. Let's help each other get free, okay? I am here. My studio and international tribe of Wholistic Fitness Warriors are here. Direct Lines is here. You have many allies for your ascent Higher. We will help each other be good and do good. The kids of today need a lot more peaceful, weaponless spiritual warriors as role models. If not for yourself, then for them...do the inner work.

See in you in class...i hear there is a kickass new yoga studio in town...

With Yoga Instructor: Chris Roche R.Y.T.
Nov 29-Dec 6 Sat / Sat - 7 nights

Camping is one of the best ways to experience St. John, the smallest and least developed of the U.S. Virgin Islands. In fact, two-thirds of the island is national park, offering scenic hiking trails, numerous scallops of secluded coves, and broad bands of spectacular beach. At Trunk Bay, underwater signs guide snorkelers along the trails.

Maho Bay Campgrounds is the perfect base. The property has its own beach, flanked by two larger bays. Some park trails are accessible on site or nearby. The Annaberg Sugar Plantation ruins are a short hike away. And a regular taxi helps you reach bustling Cruz Bay, with shopping, dining, and ferries to St. Thomas and Jost Van Dyke.

Yoga Optional: You dont have to be a Yoga practitioner to join us on this Journey, however you can register for the Yoga Option. Daily Yoga sessions overlooking Maho Bay will be lead by Indianapolis based Yoga Teacher, Chris Roche. Chris is a Registered Yoga Teacher, and a Certified Personal Trainer completing his Wholistic Fitness Teacher certification (www.wholisticfitness.com). Two sessions will be offered each full day on the island (12 sessions total). Join Chris for a transformative experience of Yoga, meditation, and adventure.

Maho Bay Campgrounds
This back-to-nature facility, voted Best Eco Lodge by Caribbean Travel & Life magazine, maximizes a dazzling setting and blends commitment to environmental protection with simple comforts. An elaborate system of multi-level walkways and stairs protects the rainforest floor and connects to the tent-cottages, made of translucent fabric stretched over wooden frames; screens let the coolbreezes pass through. Each has two twin beds, a separate living area, electrical outlets, and a private deck. Shared bathhouses use recycled rainwater, and spring faucets reduce waste. An open-air restaurant serves up breakfasts and dinners; a grocery offers everything from to-go sandwiches to camp-food basics.

"My practice of husbandry
is not different from my yoga practice;
to forgive more often
accept more quickly
embrace more deeply.
trying to find blame in our spouse's actions
or in those of our friends
or even in strangers
is like mining sand
from sandstone cliffs
or taking lava from lava flows
or silencing the song of wind through high desert spaces...
what is the purpose?
the Dance is - after all - a Dance of It All.

As part of my practice of Wholistic Fitness,
i do my best to stop blaming others at least long enough
to take a quick glance inside...
in that inner glance,
i sometimes see the Dance...
The Dance that is all around us, never ending.

Through yoga i've moved my entire bones and organs around.
now i wish to move myself closer to the Dance.
Self cultivation through intelligent fitness

karmic weight of our habits and unconscious

that pulses with the Dance
the True Dance of the Tao in our bones.

unfolding like a lotus blossom
i once thought that my whole life has been about healing. i no longer feel that we need to heal as we simply need to grow. when cultivated, inner vision makes this clear. there is no such thing as healing, there is only growth.
i can only smile as this particular part of my story unfolds like a lotus blossom. lotus flowers are used relentlessly in Eastern teachings for wise reason. these beautiful florets germinate in the mud of ponds. they struggle and push through the dark muck toward the Light and their transcendental blooming.
if you have found Difficulty as a major and consistent Teacher in your life my experiences will help you.
i do not know if my own struggle for Awareness and resultant freedom from Difficulty will serve as an accurate measure of your own. i do know, however, that this assortment of molecules and vibrations that i know on one sphere as steve ilg has been mystically blessed by a a scientific - yet spontaneous - Higher Way. this Way has presenced my entire life manifested through many Teachers.
my first Teacher of the Spirit Way has been Pain. Chronic pain. it began as a Pain in my belly when i was a child. it then shifted to a long masquerade through a series of spiritual awakenings coursing through my life like the rhythms of a wild river. by now, ive learned to accept, be transformed, be healed, be guided, be competitive and most importantly, become more whole by this Spirit Way. my spiritual and physical Practices now easily and invitingly keep my Spirit Way close to me as an intimate companion, as Divine Lover, and as a spiritual sword constantly cleaving the density of my limitations, fears, restrictions, and many contradictions. but to feel Easy instead of gripping Pain and Anxiety has not come as convenient architecture to my soul. ive had to work on it...hard. when most of my friends spent their down times watching TV or partying, i was working hard on myself through meditation, fitness, sports, or spiritual learning.
my second tangible Teacher , a black wolf hybrid named Apache taught me that just as we were given two eyes that see as one, so too we were given a Heart and Mind that were meant to Be as One. Apache taught me how to move with the elegant rhythm of breath and postural grace. he taught me one pointed concentration (ekagrata) and perseverance and spontaneous gratitude.

stay tuned to DIRECT LINES as i share more Wolf Wisdom that i was Blessed enough to receive through direct living with a most beautiful black wolf from my childhood...until then,

ilg howls at you

be noble in your fitness efforts,
be impeccable in your moments,

Tadasana, shown as the first position in all the HP Yoga Sun Salutations, is the cornerstone of all yoga poses. Tada means 'mountain.' It is the pose that all poses lead from and, at advanced levels, return to. Why? Because in Tadasana, we can experience true stillness and accurate alignment which creates our internal (fluid) and external (static) solidarity.

If you learn one yoga pose in the next decade of your life, learn Tadasana. Here is how to begin your journey of moving into quietude:

1) While standing, look down. Arrange your thighs so that they fall directly down your hips.

2) Look at your feet. Arrange the inner edges of them so that they point forward. Spread your toes strongly as possible and lift them for extra yogic credit points.

3) Slightly bend your knees and lift your inner arches and massage the balls of both feet and both heels into Mother Earth. I really need you to use a detailed Awareness to almost screw the four corners of your feet into the ground while lifting the toes and inner arches.

4) Gently pull your navel toward the spine. Draw the tip of your tailbone so that it points at your heels.

5) Straighten your legs while maintaing checkpoints 1 through 4.

6) Expand your chest like the Noble Warrior that you are! Elongate your spine right through the crown of your head. Now, redouble the effort to draw the tip of your tailbone toward your heels while feeling skyward energy through your crown...go for length and strength through the entire spine!

7) Brings your hands into the Namaste (prayer) position. Enjoy standing as strong, as solid, as immeasurably magnificent as all the beautiful mountains in the world.

This is Tadasana!

"Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of nonessentials."
-- Lin Yutang
contributed by WF Teaching In Training; Chris Roche

For twenty years, Wholistic Fitness has attempted various ways to bridge not only Eastern traditions with Western sciences but also within other areas of yin and yang...say, for example, cultivating the importance of "trying softer, not harder," during workouts or as WF Master Student Hakado Ru spotted below, finding the value of WF principles in martial art or military arenas. Check out Hak's letter to me. Yoga is everywhere, even in the heat of battle or an attack;

Steve,
Just saw this post from a nationally respected law enforcement trainer, former SEAL and classical martial arts student:

"There are many ways of getting the attacker off your holstered gun other than "beating" folks off your gun. This mind-set is essentially the status quo, but hardly the best strategy.

We don't teach gun retention techniques as traditionally presented in most law enforcement institutions and training academies.

We approach the problem from a different vantage point. We present the fundamental principles associated with being an armed professional in a multiple adversary environment. We study the implications of 4 basic concepts. Posture, breathing, relaxation and movement. These core principles are gleaned from Russian Martial Arts Systema. Each of these individual concepts represents a separate journey into human potential in and of themselves.

Specifically we demonstrate drilling practices and training methodologies that allow you function under duress when someone(s) is trying to disarm you. Using some basic understanding of bio-mechanics,
balance awareness, and perception of movement, one can solve a wide variety of problems without have to resort to a sequential progression of movements that is difficult to teach, easy to forget.

Additionally many "systems" are personality or body-type driven. That is, many techniques are strength based which eliminates the vast majority of the target population in question. Bottom-line, we (Strategos teaching staff) are not technique oriented. We are principle-based in our understanding and teaching philosophy."
- Ken Good"

So, coach, i was just noticing the 4 basic concepts noted: Posture, breathing, relaxation and movement. Small world, ain't it? I've actually started to delve into Russian Systema studies lately. Very interesting and very WF-like.

Here's a link to Ken Good's bio if it helps:

i have long said, "One does not come to Wholistic Fitness...she comes to you."

study this humble but Noble Path of Fitness long enough and, like eating SUNRIDER herbs consistently, things just Shift. foods, people, occupations, activities that you once thought attractive start losing their luster when compared to the radiance of your true inner nature unfolding like a lotus blossom greeting the sun.

in the actual training dialouge with WF Teacher "Haku" Sheader below, i can sense Student Michael's inner spirit questioning long held patterns of acceptance of convention...the Masters say it repeatedly,
"The Path is arduous, long, and narrow."

genuine personal fitness is less about workouts and much more about becoming whole...

i bow to Student Michael...may you continue to be brave and noble as your heartspace begins to sense a Higher Dance...

Dear Teacher Sheader;
Here I am in the office at 7:30 pm, working away on an overdue report

since 7:00 am...some of these problems, therefore, are certainly lifestyle

related. I need to do some serious thinking about how to address this.

I've been thinking about this for years, and I've made some big changes in

hiring staff and delegating work. Consulting is a rough way of life,

though...the clients want it now, and you can only put them off for so long.

But sit at a desk 8-14 hours a day, 5-15 days in a row, and is it any wonder

that your back and hips hurt?!? The folly of it does make me enjoy an

inward laugh at myself. ;)
- Student Michael

Dear Student Michael;
Make time for ease or time for dis-ease. Nothing is set in stone. You are

not trapped, only confined by fear, ego, patterns. Nor does it have to be

either-or. Be dynamic in your reflections, be creative in your solutions.

ex... and this is only to illustrate the point... if you had a brand new

"eager" bride at home, wanting... I dare say you would find a means not to

be at the office quite as much.

It becomes a matter of motivations. I know you are motivated.

Many WF warriors make shifts, often BIG shifts in their vocations and

lifestyle once these awakening experiences begin to unfold. You are

unfolding. Sorry 'bout that... tried to warn ya. Its kind of like

discovering the matrix... only the true reality is beautiful and bold, not

stark and grey. I doubt you could or would want to go back.

Its all go(o)d and beautiful,

Teacher Haku

as well as physically. Thanks again!

While this is an "endorsement" in itself, what follows is a more formal
endorsement for delightfully informal folk! Please feel free to use any
parts of this e-mail to support the promotion of your noble work (i.e., edit
as you desire). You can't help but realize the blessings of the Universe in
your work as you clearly seek to let It's will flow through you (this is
also evident on your website and "Direct Lines" communications). I'm
excited for you and our Southern Cal brothers and sisters to enjoy your new
studio. Congratulations on the upcoming opening. I honor you in your
visionary pursuits.

Steve Ilg brings much more to his work than his unique remarkable background
in fitness training and world-class achievement, he brings an "inner
fitness" born of his deep commitment to an authentic Yogic path. The
integration of body, mind and "spirit" in the field of fitness is a Western
Yoga whose time has come and is skillfully taught by this master of both.
Steve is an amazing teacher of fitness through yoga and of yoga through
fitness. He inspires his students through the integrity of his own body and
mind as he clearly expresses the depth, breadth, and essence of the

Student s here. Teacher Grant asked that i check in with you and forward him a
copy so he'll have them upon his return. My second training cycle is going well.

In a groove with the cardio. Linking breath with my running is what i
focus on. Want to learn how to breathe so that my body responds best.
Checking in with my shoulders to make sure they aren't up around my ears
and that my body stays centered over my hips. Loving this time of year
and all the wonderful nature i immerse myself in as i run and bike.

TS: Autumn cardio is magnificent! As all - ways...lead with your heart. Enjoy the movement... its only natural! Learning to breathe is about re-membering. Observe a infant, or a galloping horse, or running wolf. The breath is low and full and thru the nose, even with a canine which congruently breathes thru the nose as well as pants off heat. Watch a wolf or sled dog though when it is cold enough and even at a full run it is all thru the nose.

SS: The Pranayama Power Pump is certainly pumping my power. I feel strength developing in my chest and arms. And the handstands for me are really a practice in faith and patience.

TS: Yes, much to be learned in handstands...the physical manifestation perhaps the smallest element.

SS: yoga has taken some interesting twists. I started doing steve's tape
twice a week. Last saturday i ran 7 miles and then after a few hours
around the house did his tape. It felt so great to fill my body and
spirit with so much great input.

TS: Beautiful. Though there is no need to differentiate between body and spirit. Compartmentalizing them brings confinement rather than enlightenment.

SS: I am falling out of fewer poses, still
one i can't do and see IN provement. I feel the CHI baby. I enjoy going
right from the tape into a meditation. Starting to transition from doing
the meditation because it's on my schedule to CRAVING the meditation.
This feels very significant.

TS: Yes, that is very significant. It is a shift of regeneration where your being begins to show preference for that which is regenerative rather than degenerative.

SS: The SUNRIDER herbal journey just fine and dandy. I like the second ILG supreme.
Eating with awareness---not feeling satisfied with less yet but the key
word is yet...........no rush............just awareness and one meal at a
time.

TS: One meal, one bite, one chew at a time. Its all right there. It is surprising that the fully enlightened ones eat much at all..they get so much from a single bite. For most people they overeat because unable to meet the end they multiply the means. The 'end' is achieved with mindful awareness...be it food, conversation, training, love..whatever.

SS: I was dialoguing with myself and pondering what steve say's in his yoga video-----feel
everything and attach to no thing and i realized that in my life it feels
more like i have attached to everything and felt what has been
comfortable to feel ! Now i am turning things on their
head.................aint life grand ?

TS: Grand indeed. Your insight is right on and resonates with my above comments. Thank you.

SS: Feeling my blessings............staying alive and awake
Blessings to you my teachers student s

TS: Blessings with you,
Teacher Sheader

Namaste Noble Warriors!

i'm sending this from our fancy new Mac at our High Performance Yoga studio before yet another business meeting on a Sunday afternoon.

i feel centered however since earlier this morning i raced my bike to a 2nd place finish and helped teammate Steve Marlowe to a sprint prime along the way. we race each sunday morning over to Venice Beach and then back over Sepulveda Pass to the hotter, drier Valley. but i must say, the ride along the Pacific ocean among all the 'beautiful people' is quite refreshing, no matter how hard the hurt was racing over there.

southern california is now heading into what may be perhaps her most elegant season...late summer transitioning toward autumn. last evening...the sunset...oooooh! way too beautiful! i never thought i'd grow to love palm trees as much pine trees, but i must say, i may be getting there.

keep in close touch with DIRECT LINES for the next few weeks...in the same way the seasons are beginning to transform our energies if we listen closely inwardly, so too Wholistic Fitness and particularly her explosive sub-branch of High Performance Yoga is about to enter a time of elegance and what is certain to be a fruitful new era.

i bow to you and may your own racing be toward Enlightenment through your fitness practice...

love,
coach

Dear Coach-

Another leap (or pedal) forward on my Wholistic Fitness path;

Just finished my first cardio commute to work at my midtown office. A
wonderful ride - down the Hudson River bikeway to 96th Street, over to
Central Park, and down the length of the park to my doorstep. Total
elapsed time: 48 minutes, the same as it would have taken me on the
subway. Energy boost: enormous, unlike the subway, which can be an energy
drain.

Thank you-
Allan

EMOTIONAL FALLOUT - How Spiritual Warriors Deal With It

Steve,
I have often logged onto your journey entries during a especially hectic
day. They give great solace. I was wondering if you have an idea for any
workouts to do when you are feeling emotionally and spiritually drained?
(Usually I run very easy pace on some trails or grass.)
Thanks,
Jamin AAsum

Dear Jamin -
i am pleased you are able to re-find solace through some of my words now and then. i bow to you with Tribal love.

it is impossible to be 'spiritually drained.' Spirit flows endlessly. the key in spiritual training is to become a conduit of Spirit.

now, Emotions are quite different. the very word means 'disturbed.' what is being disturbed? why, your Spirit of course. you run on trails when you become disturbed from your Spirit. you intuitively know that the heightened presence of breath and movement erases emotional thickness. good call on your part, Noble Warrior! however, there are deeper more effective Ways that can be learned so that you don't have to rely on running as Therapy. you can save running for it's Higher Intent which is to move you into Spirit.

there are spiritual techniques that once learned and applied appropriately, make dealing Emotions become quite easy. they become what they truly are, momentary disturbances to natural joy. i feel that Emotions are but spiritual triggers designed to re-connect us cleverly with appreciation and wonder, two qualities that tend to go right out the door whenever we allow ourselves to become entangled within Emotion.

my Teachers taught me to treat Emotions like raindrops. Accept their watery (tears) delivery of feelings. Watch them closely as if standing apart from them. Then let them roll right off you.

it's the clinging onto Emotions which sidetracks the spiritual warrior.

finally, i want you to use our four-legged Friends to right your ship of emotional or spiritual turbulence. if a dog gets hit by a car driver and loses one of her legs, what happens to the emotional state of the dog? she doesn't cling to the drama of having only three, instead of four, legs. soon enough you will see her happily, if awkwardly, trotting about, tail wagging, eyes gleaming with wonder for the next thing to play with or upon. dogs are not attached emotionally to their living. they just drop into each circumstance and enjoy it.

why can't humans do the same? attachment to what is not Real.

contact a WF Teacher at wholisticfitness.com

get Real with your training for life. begin the Work.

begin online training to facilitate spiritual meaning behind and beyond your workouts. do not use workouts to escape what is True. use them to dive Deeper within.

thank you for reading and for writing. may our exchange benefit others.

in breath and posture,

Namaste Noble Herb Eaters!

COACH ILG'S
SEPTEMBER SUNRIDER UPDATE, 2003

SUNRIDER; The Official Nutrition of Wholistic Fitness

THE WAY OF DANCING ENERGY

"There are two ways of looking at the world; energetically or statically. One way - the Eastern - views life as a flowing river of dancing energy. The other way - Western - attempts to stop, hold, categorize, and fracture the fluidity of the Universe. I like to prioritize the way of dancing energy in my day to day life. It's just more fun and less stressful to me. It's how I enjoy to ski, climb, cycle, make love, or do yoga. The way of dancing energy is certainly the way I prefer my nutrition! To me, consuming dead, decaying, processed, or engineered molecules does not turn me on. I don't like the way those sub-stances make my breath, skin, and bodily functions smell or feel. Eating vibrant plants and cruelty-free herbs that buzz with life force however, do indeed make me feel go(o)d and I still outperform many athletes half my age in a variety of fitness elements. That is the type of lifedancing that turns me on!"
- Coach Ilg

I just gifted a collection of SUNRIDER products to a friend in return for her faithful leap into eating SUNRIDER herbs and using KANDESN skin care products. Must still be the ski jumper in me that likes to reward those who show faith, bravery, and determination in their fitness practice by leaping into new spaces. SUNRIDER is a clever part of the personal growth journey. It's intimidating and easy to turn the other way. My friend rose above her initial skepticism and trusted in me enough to order Fortune Delight and Slim Caps. That is all it takes, because the integrity of the SUNRIDER products hits you like your first yoga class...the Light goes on big time after you directly experience it!

Truth is relative. Direct experience, not intellectualization, brings truth within.

A few weeks later and five pounds lighter with beaming skin, my friend asked for further counsel for her next step into SUNRIDER because she was feeling great since taking her leap into the herbs.

Writing this, I am reminded of the great Haiku poem by Basho:

"The old pond
A frog jumps in
The sound of water."

That is what SUNRIDER asks of people; to jump in. Trust that its water will be just what you were looking for! If not, fine. Seek another pond, there are many.

Why bother jumping in? Because it's fun to jump into new things. Dr. Chen, the smiling man behind the SUNRIDER herbs, smiles a lot because he knows damn well he has cornered the world market on the choicest herbs while the rest of the world scrabbles over scraps grown in paltry soil and environs. Have you ever seen the dried up herbs in most herb shops? Now, pop open a bulk container of NuPlus or smell a fresh cup of Calli Beverage! Pow! That Pow is CHI and it got there because Chen will use up to 12 lbs of raw herbs to produce 1 lb of product.

Dr. Chen is also smiling all the time because he knows he has sole access to the ancient herbal manuscripts (the ShaoLin monks used Calli beverage for their meditation and training sessions) and has combined that Eastern ancient knowledge with the best of the Western facilities by owning debt free the most sterile, expensive manufacturing, processing, and distribution facilities for premier quality herbs in over 25 countries.

Chen knows that the very MOMENT a person jumps into a particular SUNRIDER product (it does not matter if it is the Hand Cleansing Gel, Supreme Emulsion, or Calli Beverage) even the LEAST sensitive person will notice the profound SUNRIDER difference. Any SUNRIDER product you try will put the MAJOR hurt on any similar product. But we already know that, it's trying to get others to try SUNRIDER that is the challenge because they will always to try logically think their way into the SUNRIDER pond. It doesn't work that way, does it? You gotta jump in!

Take Kandesn's Beauty Bar. Logically, you would not pay $12 for a lousy bar of face soap, right?

If you used the Basho's frog faith however, and just LEAPT in and USED the soap, then several insights SPLASH into your Awareness:
1) there is absolutely no way you will EVER put another soap on your face again...
2) you use such a teensy tiny amount of the soap each time you use it, you realize that $12 bar of SUNRIDER soap is going to last you several months,
3) the lightly acidic composition of the soap gently cleanses but does not dry out your skin and you can literally feel the balanced state on your skin.

Suddenly you TRUST in Chen's knowledge of herbs and realize it is a daily joy to benefit from his line of nutritional and skin care products.

Now, my friend that I was talking about? Well, she has a friend that is very skeptical about SUNRIDER. Predictable. Her friend told her, "Oh, you use those herbs that Steve uses, huh? Not me. I am waiting because I am going to RESEARCH every herb in those products until I know EXACTLY what are in those products!"

Fine, knock yourself out.

She may find out the ingredients of the products but she cannot figure out the accumulative CHI effect that comes from their ancient formulation, modern enhancement, and extreme concentration.

You can't understand the intelligence of SUNRIDER's products until you experience the products directly. That is why i bow to Dr. Chen. The brilliant authenticity and ancient wisdom of SUNRIDER can only be perused by the intellect but not understood until felt within. Dr. Chen even built a multi million dollar Museum of Chinese Herbology to educate Westerners in the intricate and several thousand year old science of herbs. You can go talk to him during his monthly SUNRIDER meetings. No other owner of such a vast enterprise is so accessible and giving of his time.

WHY SUNRIDER HERBS ARE LOW IN CALORIES BUT HIGH IN NUTRITION

To answer this question, we have to go back to my opening paragraph. Let me re-phrase it here: In life, there are certain crux choices one makes in terms of worldviews.

When it comes to the nature of the Universe, one can choose between seeing it as a movement or as matter. The Eastern mind chose Movement. The Western mind chose Matter.

Thus, if you ask a Western trained doctor his opinion on Vitashake or NuPlus (SUNRIDER's whole-food basic nutrition powder), they will say something like, "Oh no, you cannot use that product as your main source of core nutrition because it has far too few calories and minuscule amounts of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins." They say this because their Western educational upbringing conditions them to break things down into compartments. Their conditioning actually began in Greece, around 400 bc...so don't get mad at them, they are mere shadows of their Western philosophy of breaking the flow of life into matter - known as "atomism." Unfortunately, modern medicine albeit great for emergency room (yang) style of medical treatment, consistently kills and causes suffering to far more people that it cures. "We don't know what we are doing in medicine. We're really flying blind on an awful lot of important problems," says Dr. Eddy of Duke University's Center for Health Policy Research. I have personally known over ten close friends or students who have themselves or known a family member who have checked into a hospital for a regular checkup or minor condition and were killed by the doctors. The long list of 'side effects' from modern medicines is sure proof that there is room for Western improvement when it comes to understanding energy for health.

On the other hand, if you ask an Eastern doctor her opinion on Vitashake or Nuplus (or any other SUNRIDER herbal or skin care product), she will say something like, "Ahhh...yes, there is much CHI in this product! Very good, very good! You take!"

You see, the Eastern mind recognizes what nourishes movement. They don't care so much about isolated matter.

Take a human being.

Now take a corpse.

What is the difference? Same molecules in both, right?

Far different movement, however.

Thank God!

Western food supplements focuses on engineering molecules (matter).

SUNRIDER focuses on sustaining and empowering chi (movement) within the body.

Westerners are brainwashed to believe that foods need to be examined and broken down into matter like calories, fats, proteins, etc.

But human energy is not about matter (calories).

It's about movement (chi).

SUNRIDER herbs are powerfully concentrated chi.

Just as quantum physics has proved that a brick wall (formerly considered an epitome of 'matter') is actually 99.99% highly vibrating space, so too will the Western mind eventually realize that our bodies are 99.99% movement (or chi) and that only whole foods that vibrate with chi can truly nourish us!

May this month you continue to enjoy the daily nutrition of SUNRIDER's extremely CHI concentrated products such as Fortune Delight and Vitashake. May you even be brave enough to replace your current soap with a KANDESN Beauty Bar and let yourself realize just how GOOD a chi filled, cruelty-free face soap feels. SUNRIDER products feel just as good on you, as they do within you!

May this month you tell your friends who are afraid of SUNRIDER that they can't see new lands if they are afraid to lose sight of the shore.

They,
like Basho's frog,
must JUMP in...
instead of trying to intellectually
"figure things out"...
which is
ultimately
as silly
as thinking
that a brick wall
is solid.

It ain't.

Either are you.

You
are
Movement.

You
are
Chi.

Feed your body Chi
and
DANCE
baby!!!!

I bow to you,

Steve Ilg, RYT

Namaste Noble Warriors!

"There are two ways of looking at the world. One way is that nothing is a miracle. The other is that everything is a miracle."
- Albert Einstein

Kathy and i are back in LA, (overly) tanned, rested, and ready to get the doors open for our new HP yoga studio. We are aiming for September 15th as our 'soft' opening. Our Grand Opening is slated for the first weekend in November and will include a variety of speakers, musicians, and free classes. We are delighted to feature kirtan chanting artist, "Mantra Girl" (www.mantragirl.com) for our Grand Opening weekend!

Should be very fun.

Which is why i want to open my own yoga studio...sounds like fun. i like having fun. i've had fun my whole life. Even through the ups and downs. In fact, the longer one journeys a spiritual Path, the realization begins to gel; it's the obstacles and challenges in life that gift us appreciation, meaning, and wonder.

RECAP OF OUR SUMMER YOGA RETREAT:
(watch for a Red Mountain 'Moment' photo series at wholisticfitness.com!)

Our time at Red Mountain kicked gluteal. We represented the High Performance Yoga vibe pretty well, i feel. A great time was had by all and the Management wants us back ASAP. I don't know...it's a pretty tough gig....;-)

Some peripheral highlights help define the core of our week-long teaching; by week's end nearly everyone staying at the Spa was doing Namaste and bowing to each other. Most of these people had never even heard the word, "Namaste" before, let alone bow to complete strangers! It was very cute. We had the place looking like a zen temple with everyone bowing and smiling to each other. Our classes were packed with more than a few students moved to tears, either by way of sheer effort or uprooted emotions brought about by the depth of inner work that HP Yoga requires from us. Dr. David Tate, the staff psychologist at Red Mountain Spa is such a big fan of HP Yoga that he pulled his gorgeous son and daughter out of school for my Taoist Yoga Flow Class and Yoga For Health lecture. He said told his kids that attending one of my classes is an "education of a Higher sort not to be missed." i bow to Warrior Tate. Kathy and i had lunch with his family and Dr. Tate enthusiastically agreed to endorse my new book. Another bridge built spanning East and West! Yeah, baby!

OUTDOOR YOGA, WHERE THE BREATH TRULY BELONGS!
Since HP Yogis are not 'studio' yogis, i made certain we took our yoga outdoors. One gorgeous morning, i established a course record for the Snow Canyon Loop on a rented mountain bike with a wobbly rear wheel. This unbelievably beautiful 17.3 mile loop circumnavigates the Red Mountain Spa via a blend of a Scenic Highway that climbs 1,400' through Jurassic sandstone peppered by 2,000 year old lava flow fields and a scintillating paved bike path that undulates like a angered serpent through red rock country as it careens into St. George. A lefthand turn sweeps you onto a thigh pumping 3.5 mile gentle ascent to deposit you right back at the Spa. Don't miss it. One of the best cycling routes i've ever had the honor to breathe with. You can even do your best to better feeble ilg's time of: 51 minutes. Remember, that's on a hard tail rented mountain bike! I like leaving invisible marks like this at places i visit. Kinda like a dog marking his territory, you know what i mean? i've pretty much marked the entire country at this point. Got that down? Dog?

Kathy and WF Warrior Clay Clymore also rode our mountain bikes with climbing shoes tucked into our packs out to a cliff that i knew about from my former life as a rock climber. Sure enough, our self propelled effort won favor with the Desert Gods who - having been appeased by our sweat - saw it fit to hook us up with some very cool local rock climber kids. Their super kind, laid back demeanor rekindled my faith in the younger generation as they let us use their equipment and enjoy their company. The smell of rope abrading rock and finger tendons yawning upon chalked handholds pried open all sorts of rich, delightful memories from my former occupation. My HP Yoga fitness transferred seamlessly onto the vertical rock face as i easily floated up a 5.10b route with no flicker of difficulty. The presence of a very sparky Desert Tortoise appeared like a Skinwalker at Warrior Clymore feet! All six of us shared a zen moment when Kathy spotted a tiny spider spinning a web like a lasso around a much larger red ant. Periodically, the spider would jump on top of the strugggling ant, inject poison into it's backside, then reverse the lasso effect. Watching this fight for life reminded me of how addicted we humans are to comfort. And of how far we've strayed from the visceral intensity of survival.

In contrast to finding yoga in outdoor sports and in the animal kingdom, i also pushed my edge in the opposite direction. During the week long retreat i received my first ever pedicure. i now want another. Inspired by the soft gleam of my feet, i painted a blue "OM" symbol on my big toes. Why not? Kathy and i also had a tanning contest refereed by Noble Student Clymore. Since Kathy is part Mexican, she made a crucial mistake of overconfidence. She forgot that my heritage, although anglo, stems back to Germanic Barbarianism. If challenged, my Viking spirit arises from within eons of imprinted cell energy and i will do anything to slay a competitor if so inspired. Melanoma, i figure, is a small price to pay to win a tanning contest against my wife. When time came to reveal the tan lines, i inched her out by one half of one shade. Performance Note: i did have to rely on a yogic siddhi (power) to win this competition, a fact of which i am not proud.

i bow with nearly sunburned scalp to you as summer begins to surrender. It's been another fun one. We are all Blessed to be Here Now,

coach ilg

Dearest Noble Guru,

I wish to express my deepest appreciation to you for teaching the Ai Imawa healing postures as part of your yoga class at Red Mountain Spa. I want to share my observations with you as well as our tribal brothers and sisters. In the past I had not given the Ai Imawa healing postures enough credit. After having warmed up with sun salutations, I believe this set the stage for letting the postures work their magic. I like the postures because the remind me of my study of martial arts, then came the magic. I felt such a deep emotional release that toward the end of the series there were tears rolling down my cheeks. Thank you for allowing me to revisit and learn a deeper appreciation of Ai Imawa.

Been reading your direct lines lately and decided to update you on things

back here in Monterrey......

Been enjoying my summer and reaping the fruits of my intense training from

January until June...this summer felt my climbing really improve with the

practice of yoga not just because of the increased flexibility but because

of the "hold the asana" type of movements in the rock...

Started Kitesurfing on some weekends in lakes nearby and in South Padre

Island...men, I am really loving the sport...can kite for days without

getting tired...yea baby...

With regards to my biking... ...my last race was yesterday and I

finished 14 in my category...heat was burning and my heart rate was 181 bpm
average with 192 bpm

max...concentrated, motivated and improving but still far from the

podium...lets see how I do in the next and last two races of this

year...will probably ask for your training advice for next years series...

Im reading the Light on Yoga book and practicing your videos...Iyengar is an

wonderful writer/teacher...your new yoga video rocks...my hips still arent

even near of doing a pose similar as those on the last 20 minutes of the

class...flexibility is my REAL challenge...I will open myself "centimetro a

centimetro"...

Still researching herbs... wonderful stuff...we are still testing the

Sunrider waters...and have liked what weve tried...personally really like

the fortune delight before and during my morning CV or strenght

session...Ilg supreme for breakfast and mid morning Calli tea...feel

energetic and with better control on my daily food choices...slowly

progressing towards my weight target...

Hope you recieved your Sunrider book back and liked the music selection we

did for you two.

Best of luck in your new Yoga Studio proyect...hope to visit it soon.

Ale and yours truly are still absorbing your teachings and saving/planning

our next wholistic fitness trip...most surely next year...you guys are fully

invited to our home whenever you want to visit the real south down under...

Un abrazo desde Mexico,
Fidel y Ale
