STUDENT SHEL PUTS WF CROSS TRAINING TO THE TEST!

Student Shel learning a "Performance Pranayam" from Coach's Ilg and Ananda during a WF Intensive last year. Instead of training like a typical runner would for her Honolulu Marathon, Shel cranked out cross training in only the way a WF Warrioress can! Yoga, Meditation, Pranayama, Strength Training, and of course, the SUNRIDER HERBS! Let's see how her testing of my WF Path paid off...
Aloha everyone..............so how does a movement educator celebrate the end of another wonderful year ? By coming to Honolulu and running the marathon , of course ! If you ever want to run a marathon or if you have done so already and are looking for another one, make it Honolulu. For some rather obvious reasons--- it is absolutely gorgeous over here, they don't close down the course until the last runner crosses the finish line, it starts at 5 A. M. with a round of fireworks, and you get to soak your well used body in the pacific ocean minutes after finishing.
I participated with an unusual intention. I did not train for the run in the usual format. Most people training for marathons start at least 4 months ahead of time and keep adding more and more mileage until they reach the 26 mile distance in training. I haven't done a run longer the 6 miles in 7 months ! HOWEVER , what i have been doing (with the help of my coach and mentor Steve Ilg ) is very specific cross training----swimming , biking, strength training, yoga, meditation, herbal whole foods. So getting out there and seeing if i could go the distance was a challenge . Was all this training across the physiologic spectrum producing a well rounded Shelli ?
I have concluded that indeed it has. I finished in the top half of my female age group, ran a race that kept me in my target heart rate allowing me to have good endurance, and i am feeling good with lots of energy the day after the race.
And what does a movement educator do first thing the day after the marathon ? Why YOGA of course..............
So over the holidays i encourage you to not let your fitness routine go by the wayside...........move, breathe, feel how great it is to be alive and well !
In joy,
shelli stein
